| I have connected to a printer on another computer in my workgroup. When I print a document over the network it prints fine, but I do not see the printer icon in the status area of the taskbar. Can somebody please help me configure the taskbar so that I can double click the printer icon on the taskbar and view the print queue? I appreciate everybodys input. Thanks | |

| Do you ever have to wait for the prinout, ie are there lots of prints going to this printer, because sometimes, it will just flash in and out of the tray before you can see it. | |

| I never have to wait for a print out. It prints right away and as soon as I press the print button, I watch the tray to check the status of the job but the icon never appears even after the job prints. | |

| It's probably because it goes through so quickly.
Try pausing the print queue on the other PC, and then printing a document, and then see if they icon comes up in the tray.

| I just paused the printer, and printed a job but still no tray icon for the printer queue. But if i click thorugh Start>Settings>Printers I can see the paused job. I can also catch the job printing in the queue with this method but still no tray icon. | |

| Hmmmmm,
what printer is it, make model etc.
What OS are you using (both PC's)?

| I'm using one of those Cannon Multipass C555 scanner/printer/fax combo's. The OS I'm printing from is Windows 2000 Professional, the OS the prniter is connected to is Windows XP home. I have that computer dual booted with Win2K server, so I am going to try and print from the Win2k Server OS and see if I can get my printer icon tray.

| Chanses are ithe job has loaded into the buffer on the printer lightning fast and as far as the OS knows, it is already printed. | |

| Well I can not isolate the problem by checking it on the different server OS cause my active directory on the Win2KServer computer is having DNS problems, & I cant join the domain. I can either demote the server and join the workgroup, or fix the DNS problem. I am going to postpone my search for the printer icon until i can fix my DNS problem.(no SRV records)
I dont think everything is happening so fast I just dont see the icon, because I can view the job printing if i click Start>Setttings>Printer. But is is possible, everything is 100Mbs.

Can you try it the other way round?
ie. put the printer on the w2k machine and connect to that from the XPHome.

| Is the driver set to print directly or to spool?
Cheers,

| The printer is set up to spool the document, but begin printing before spooling completes.
I really do not want to move that printer right now it is too big (okay its not that big I just dont want to unplug all the wires and install drivers, etc), but that is a good idea. I want to fix my DNS problem first, and if that doesnt work I guess I have to start rearranging furniture. |
