Computers and the Internet are the devils tool...

| I was down at a local carpet buying a roll of carpet with my dad(he owns a carpet business so I help him load carpet sometimes when he is alone) Anyways, I noticed that the store did everything manually. So I asked them if they would like me to supply them with a cheap computer and a custom program to keep track of all their inventory and also work as a simple billing tool. I thought it would be a fun little project and a good way to refresh my programming skills and maybe learn a little. The owner looked at me and starting preaching about how computers and the Internet is the tool of the devil and how it brings in porn, sin of games and all this other weird stuff.
I was like ooooooooooooook then. Don't think I will be going back there again. It was weird because I spoke to this guy before and he never seemed so fanatical. I didn't even know that people were that bad. Hmmm, then again he could have just been messing me. He is the type of guy who would do that. Next time I see my dad I will see what he thinks. Then again if it was a joke he wouldn't tell me either. I am such a retard. Now that I think about it he probably was messing with me. Then again he seemed pertty serious. Anyways, I thought that was very instresting and thought I would share it.
Anyone else know anyone like that? One of my ex-girlfriends parents wouldn't let her goto college when she was living them, because they said college was "worldly". I think they just didn't want to pay for it.

| I think computers are evil but then again I'm satan so please ignore that statement. | |

| When I learned about computers, it strengthened my belief in God. As I began to understand all of the various interconnecting systems and how everything has a reason and a purpose, it made me think that all of this stuff had intelligent designers. Then, I realized that there are people who are studying much more complex machines than PCs. Those machines are called human beings. The people in med schools are learning about very complicated interrelating systems where everything has a purpose and a reason. Obviously these machines not only had to have had an intelligent creator, but he has to be a bit smarter than the folks at IBM. | |

I'd like to know is why he terminated a sewage system into a recreational area

| Reminds me of an old black and white movie I saw a few years ago, cant recall the name, but David Niven was in it. Anyway, if you can imagine the scenario, two great nations were about to unleash a catastrophic war against each other, the clock was ticking with only 24hrs to go until all out war.Nobody knew the answer to this problem. A giant computer was tasked with solving the problem and the great thinkers and leaders of the world looked on as this machine set to work, mans salvation lay in the answer from this machine. At the final hour the machine stopped and started printing, Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal... yes the Ten commandments. Not preaching or anything, just a different slant on it,the computer brings salvation instead of evil. | |

| In some ways the internet shows just how low humanity can go.
It hasn't really developed any morality yet. Just look at all the idiots writing viruses all the time. If these people were pouring petrol into post boxes and setting fire to mail, people would be shocked and they would be severely punished. Yet write a virus that wipes out 1000s of hard disks, and people just think its adolescent fun.
Plus, there's virtually no peer pressure against it.
I wouldn't say its the work of the Devil, I'd say its the work of humanity, warts and all. It's not something we should be that proud of...until we can sort it out.

Who created the creator?

Harry Truman said it best: "The buck stops here!"
The creator probably has a plaque just like Harry's.

| The computer is just a tool, how we use it could be for evil or good. | |

That applies to anything.

We humans could do the same. Not that I disbelieve in the gos, but this argument never much appealed to me as it could be extended indefinitely.

| Does make you wonder doesn't it? I remember once a couple of Jehova's Witnesses came round my door trying to get me to convert to christianity. When I asked "why christianity rather than any other religion?" they replied "because it's the biggest religion on earth". Kinda reminded me of a timeshare salesman or something! | |

they dont beleive in satan or hell, right? looks like that would be a big selling point to me!

| Most things have dual uses: uses for good and uses for evil. If it is used to glorify God, it is a good thing. If it is used for evil, judgment will fall upon those who use them for evil. But logically, if you apply this man’s reasoning to the internet you also have to say that all forms of communication are wrong since they are used as “tools” by the Devil. I mean people use phones (the radio, magazines, the mail system etc.) for evil but that does not mean we should not ever use phones (the radio, magazines, the mail system etc.). Very clearly, the Devil uses all these things to spread evil.
You might want to point out that yes the internet, like many other things (television, film, the media) are all used as “tools” by the Devil to deceive people and lead them against God. However, all of these things also have been used under his providence to spread the Gospel, and teach people about Christianity. In countries where Christianity is illegal, it is the internet that provides most of the resources that edify God’s people.

| Yes, arguments can be made both ways. I say we (mankind) cannot un-invent something because we can see its evil purpose, case in point nuclear weapons. What we can do is harness these devices and try to use them to our advantage and lessen the damage that could be done. I guess you could say the computer is a good slave but a bad master. In the case of nuclear, you can generate nuclear power cleanly and efficiently, with all the environmental benefits. I know there is an issue with the waste but who knows what new developements could emerge with the proper research. | |

| we go about our lives and do our little things and make choices. We get comfortable in our little world.
The internet brings weird and wonderful things into my home that I would have never found out about before.
Unfortunately it has also opened my eyes to what degenerate morons most of humanity is, just from seeing stuff I had previously avoided by living where I live and hanging with who I hang with.
Try this experiment: Make a program that randomly generates ip addresses and visit their websites (if any) Of the valid ones, tally how many are porn or inane self-indulgent drivel at the best.
I appreciate EN. | |

| Pornography and eroticism was the driving force during the early days of photography and the printing press. Im sure millions of people bought computers for the sole purpose of sexual self abuse. Sad really. | |

I find tasteless this persistent barrage of personal attacks on Ruscorp.

Well the tonsils don't do much of anything. I still have mine by the way.

| Computers have been represented by good and the bad aspect.
Look at the Movie 2001 and Terminater(SP), they represent the bad side of computers. Where Terminator2 and Star Wars show both good and bad types of computer life forms or intelagents(sp)and uses of computers.
This shows the humans fear of future computer intelagents. Will the tech advans in the future bring us a real RD-2, c3p0 and or Terminater1 type problems.
What type of computer intelagents do think we are capable of creating?
| jimbo2002 2003-10-27, 6:30 pm |
| How smart the computer is depends on how good or bad the software is. The best hardware in the world is only a platform for the software. As long as people write the software I dont suppose computers will do much different from what they do now. I think it is changing and moving toward computers writing the software, or maybe bits and pieces. But if the computers start writing software and distributing it automatically, then, who knows. | |

| Computers are stupid. They understand 1's and 0's. | |

| Maybe, Maybe not.
I could create artificial intelegence. I belive the creation of AI is a much simpler task than most make it out to be programming wise. Developement of the hard ware is beyond my financial means however and the hardware is the most important part. When it is eventually developed, I'm sure it will follow the same processes I have envisioned for artificial cognition. Gee, if they would only let me into M.I.T. Then I could share my theories, and the age of the machines would begin.

| I spend quite a bit of time at my church's website. Many of us in our church communicate by email. In his own time, you'll see the devil using the Bible to prove his own points. He'll tell ten truths to get to one lie. And the devil never, ever, ever "made me do it." He puts things in front of us that we can either leave there and drink in or shove away. That same person who decries the evils of technology via the internet must by association decry the evils of all mass media and even the us postal service, and then, by extension, all forms of communication to include person to person speech, because they can be used for evil. The fact that something can be used for bad things doesn't mean that everyone who has that thing uses it for bad things. The evil does not ooze through the network cables and telephone lines, it exists all around us and we choose minute by minute to embrace it or to turn away from it. | |
