Author HD problem?

I have two machines that are the same except for the HD one is a quantum and one is a western digital. The computer with the Western Digital HD was working fine until I took its power supply and put it in another machine to test the mobo. When I put the original power supply back in the computer with the WD HD it would go through its normal POSTing until it came to the point to detect other devices. I checked the connections and on my primary IDE I have the HD set as master. On the secondary IDE I have a CD-ROM set as master and a zip drive set as slave. Do I need to check something in the BIOS.

Also on the type of Gateway I am working on, when you plug the power cord into the back of the computer it will turn on. After the above change it would try to power on but shut off 5 sec later. I had to push the power button for it to work. I also put a different, known-good HD in there (the Quantum) and everything seemed to work fine.

Please Help....

Do you have another device on your primary channel.

From my experience WD drives have a special setting for a drive on it's own, if you have it set to master it will expect another drive on that channel.
