What to do for supplemental income?
|
|
| sean34 2003-10-14, 4:11 pm |
| All,
Anybody out there working a part-time gig, completely unrelated to technology, to supplement their 9-5 tech income?
I'm just kinda curious, whether it be coaching little league, babysitting, or selling furniture.
I'm starting to save aggressively and a part time gig will help the zereos grow.
Im looking for some ideas

| As some of you know, I do 12 hour shifts on network support. Lately, I have been trying to promote my business and just recently, I completed my first "private client" contract. A straightforward wireless LAN in the office of a plastics moulding factory. Nothing big, just a wireless access point, two wireless LAN cards in desktop PCs, one wireless LAN in a laptop - all running Windoze XP. Hooked to whole lot up to an ADSL router and whizz, worked first time. My client took his laptop from one end of the factory, past all the machinary and metal fabrication of the building and never once lost internet connectivity. What a peice a kit! Can't wait for more of same. Hope word gets round soon.

| Hello,
I sell gear on a local Sunday market changing my 'line' every 6 - 12 months.
Currently I have a range of digital watches and cigarette lighters and I've just had my first week on a different market.
I've not got the full stock range yet, only about 75% as I need more stuff for kids (especially with Christmas coming up), but I still made close to 100 UK pounds profit.
I'd always considered selling on Ebay, etc.
How about finding wharehouses, distributors, etc, who are willing to delivery directly to your customers...
sell a bunch of items on Ebay and have the supplier ship the goods for you?
You don't handle any goods, just the cash...

| I make really bad money where I work (call center), so I make a little extra $$ by fixing the occational network, building a few computers and setting stuff up for people. I made $300 last week alone (+ 2 moniters and a 386 ) + my $400 at work. I don't have a set fee, so people just pay me whatever (usually a little cash, old computer parts, and food), and I don't really mind. | |

i've also worked in construction in my spare time....setting up central air systems in new houses, framing, wood floors, cabinets, bathroom stalls and accessories for large dep. stores and even some electrical wiring here and there....all kinds of funstuff. worked as a busboy, did retail for awhile, worked at a stock transfer company.....come to think of it, i have done quite a few things. anything to keep busy

| Hi Guys,
being a market trader I'm always on the look-out for a 'deal' and I spotted something the other day that could do with a little research in the US if anyone is interested...
Watching CSI, a guy had run into another guy in his car and he tried to hide it. The car was a Mercedes and he passed it on to an ex-school-friend who ran a 'chop-shop'.
This guy said that the car was worth more in parts that it was as a whole, he said it was worth US$ 300K...that's about 200K Sterling, over three times the value of the new car.
So, how much are European cars worth as parts? Could someone in the US find a chop-shop that would be looking to buy European cars in whole or just the parts.
I can get complete cars or parts cheaper here and arrange shipping to the US.
If it looks a viable deal then to get the start-up capital anyone who's interested could chip in any sum they wanted and receive a pro-rata percentage of the profits.
That way we'd only be risking a small amount of cash each if anything goes wrong...
Anyone fancy asking around in their neighbourhood?
We could probably take on any number of deals in any or all parts of the US.
Keep it (relatively) legal though :-)
Regards

| Hi Bearing,
yep, there's bound the be the odd difference/improvement on the US models, but a lot of the parts would be the same. Especially if it was a European (LHD) model.
Still worth checking out, if anyone fancies making a few phone calls in the US....
On another note:
are there any magazines available in the US like Exchange & Mart or Market Trader News? How about newspapers and general magazines, do they have adverts for goods/products in them?
I'm looking for the sort of stuff that's readily available in the US but not known here in the UK. If someone could get hold of a selection of US mags/newspapers to post to me then I'd pay in advance...

Have you seen those 'One For All' wireless phone extenders, they just plug into the mains and use Power Line Carrier (PLC) voice,
audio and data communication technology. In laymans terms they use the ring main in your house to send telephone signals. I've sold a few and they seem pretty good.

This is the age of the net. You can for example read the daily print adverts of the Los Angeles Times newspaper on line. www.latimes.com look in the upper left corner for newspaper ads. Anything printed is also online anyone can view them but for some reason they want you to register to read the news stories. Individuals also sell lots of things through a market trader paper called the pennysaver which is pretty much nation wide www.pennysaver.com See if these two sites give you any ideas.

You made me laugh,
it is very interesting to read the threads when it starts with one subject and on page lets say 30 it is totally irrelevant to anything at the beginning.
By the way there are quite a few such threads in the forums. Since I am relatively new to these forums I am very interested in reading and catching up with what had been discussed in the past.
I found this web site by searching for Oraknowledge and just a few days before that another member posted his opinion about this company, opinion, which I actually support too. Anyway it is very good site for certification seekers as well as certification holders.
I have found things that are interesting for me
