mikop

2003-10-08, 1:29 am

I have my local news channel on atm.

it is fun watching all the democrates squirm on the various shows right now trying to spin this
Stizzy

2003-10-08, 1:37 am

hehe....democrats are definately not having any luck anywhere right now. just waiting for Arnolds speech right now....comeon....all i want is a one liner...."I'll be back" can wait til he's running again. I want a new one..... "talk to the hand" from T3 was good. he can do better in his acceptance speech though.
mikop

2003-10-08, 1:43 am

hah...that is just most excellent.

you gotta respect Arnold though, no matter how much crap he gets, he came from pretty much nothing to multi-multi millionaire and now governor of CA. not a bad speech either....goofy cuz it's him, but he's good with speeches.
i honestly think he might do a decent job...and if that bites me in the arse i'm selling my Terminator dvds. and Maria is looking a little skeleton like....she was pretty good looking at one point....i think she needs some fat on her body....maybe in the face. or maybe it's just she looks strange standing next to arnold...yeah, that's a good excuse.
no eggs this time either!
Stizzy

2003-10-08, 1:58 am

they're already hacking away at his acceptance speech....not enough detail...blah...blah.
Mikop...considering your from CA, how do you think he'll do...are you hoping to be impressed?

That's what make the attachs by the democrates so unfortunate...

It simply expose them to be the party of the intellectual elite... from pat brown to the san francisco politicians, including feinstein, pelosi and mayor brown.

It is also unfortunate that they can in one hand claim to be the champion of latino/immigrant affairs while on the other rip Arnold for being an immigrant who still speaks with an accent...

It is also unfortunate that they have to attack him for his lack of qualification... when he has a master degree, been successful in both managing a business and also his careers... when the experienced politician has done nothing in the years he has been in office...

It is unfortunate that these intellectual elite would also attack Arnold because of his profession... I guess if we don't raise our children in the art of politicking... art of fundraising, they aren't worthy of holding public office... Is Sam Walton just a grocery boy? Is Colonel Sanders just a cook? But he is just an actor... an entertainer... What does Barbara Streisand do again... why is she worthy of the politican presense often afforded to her?
It is too bad we can be this elitist... You are from a family who couldn't get you rolling into the higher society of the political powerful... You had to start working as busboy... a restauranter... you just don't have the upbrining, the political grooming...

Davis has done more in the last month than he has done in 6 years... but we still have the car tax...

Fact of the matter is, the economy is not his doing... we all recognize that. But davis is the worst of the worst manager, the type who takes all the credit when it is not theirs to take and the one who shed all responsibility when a real manager would take responsibility for not leading through it, even if it is beyond their power. If this is a private enterprise, the stock holders would've asked for his resignation long ago... much like the voters has done today.

So he has been a womanizer... eeeer these are people of the age group that were the flower child... where was brown at berkeley? where were the SF politician... Dirty politicking...

Even on this board, we have seen the attack on Arnold for his parentage... for what his parents has done... we have condemned him for 1. being an actor, 2. being a body builder when that was his ticket out of poverty... 3. we have condemned him for not speaking without an accent... in a state wiht a large Indian, Asian and Latino population... We have condemned him for his lacking of qualification, when we expect the chief executive to be an enabler, a person who brings together a team that can run the state and he has certainly done that. But then they attack him for brining in successful managers... because their experiences consist of working for the governor before Davis...

anyway, long rant... The data are coming in right now, it is showing that this isn't a political thing with the republican trying to steal an election. The anger and dissatissfaction with his governorship is real and we the ppl have let him have it with our vote.

What can he do? given the current climate in our state legislature?

The political machination in SF is strong and we have this north vs south thing since cali was still under Spanish rule... so I expect the democratic legislature to work over time to not be cooperative... especially considering that bustamante is still the leutenant governor and will surely run for the governorship again...

Labor interest and Casino interests in Cali is strong... they will be sure to work against Arnold.

I don't think anyone is under teh illusion that Arnold can somehow make magic, but the fact is, even if he is completely inept, it can not possibly be worst than Davis... and Arnold has already surrounded himself with experienced managers who can ensure that he does not totally botch Cali...

It is like... when your stock goes from 120 to 2 dollars, does it really matter if it now goes to 1.15? Most ppl just want a change of fresh air... I don't expect it to go back to 120, but heh... 2.1 would be a change because now it is up and not down... as Davis would surely drag us to being delisted.

verrrry interesting and mainly true too. It looks like the only thing the voters forgot is the tar and feathers. Maybe the democratic congress will finally get out of Starbucks and do the peoples work. The democratic national party would be smart to distance themselves from the California local party.

The current crop of politicians just don't get it. The Dem's brought in their top guns and despite the polls saying it would be a tight race when people got in the booths they basically said screw you guys.

Unfortunately California has a history of having some of the most useless Govenors ever seen. Every time I visit back there I am even more glad i am on the other side of the Pacific. The place has been steadily going downhill since the 70's when the bloody Sierra Club started gaining ground. From my observations from afar I consider possibly the two most inept Govenors California has ever had are Davis and Feinstein.
As you say Mikop - even if he is totally inept he can not possibly do worse than Davis. I also consider that he has enough income streams that he will not be handing out favours to curry influence for when his time is over.
Now for the kicker ....
Remember the last movie star Govenor - ya know the one who also became President? I think he was perhaps the best govenor California has had since the 60's.

Side note it looks like the guy got around 10,000 votes. That is enough to make him the mayor of many small towns - yikes. It's cooling off. This is the time of the year when the mushrooms grow again and the toads with hallucinogenic sweat start coming out.

Yo, Vote for me! Seriously, I think you have to be born in America to run for president, so Conan is out unless the laws change.

2003-10-08, 5:19 pm

mikop.....some interesting views and the harsh reality of it all. i can honestly say i'm not very involved in politics and can't remember half the people in office but i enjoy listening to the debates. arnold had name recognition and definately has some smarts behind that big mass of muscle. and the politicians and analysts that feel like bashing him right away have to realize that he went from nothing to millions of dollars and many houses and he does excellent charity work. they're gonna have to look at themselves before they start whining and figure out what they've done with their careers.

i say we vote for conan obrien for president....if arny can't get it then i want the other conan....the funny one. he's my hero and he's from boston.

I am proud of California. They showed the establishment that it has to fear the people. More and more Americans are getting tired of being dragged around by the elite. In New York several years ago we did something revolutionary by electing Rudy. Yesterday the Californias proudly declared their desire to be free from the state of affairs that was sinking their ship. They elected a man with tremendous potential who truly cares about people. He has demonstrated this fact by years of work in which he has helped countless young people build solid lives rather than fall victim to the streets. Someday, maybe we'll take our country back from the people that have shut down our oil wells and destroyed our schools.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has his work cut for him for sure. It is not going to be a piece of cake to balance California's nearly $100
billion dollar budget without raising taxes. he is also going to have mend a deep rift between the conservative and moderate wings of his on party as well as reaching out too the democrates to get on his band wagon. I wish governor Schwarzenegger the very best. He is smart, has good people skills and just might be able to pull this off.

Just another ahlf baked actor becoming a half assed pollitician.

The only hope of success for Arnie is if Shrub does everything Grey Davis had asked for and then some. Otherwise, it will just continue as "SSDD".

The recall was an abominition of the democratic process. The recall was actualy started as soon as the results were known, may be before it was official.

Yes, he'll eliminate the car-tax, and with his signature your state's deficit will instantly go from 8 billion to 12 billion. Brilliant. How many of you drive Hummers, Navigators and Escalades? What's the car tax on an Escort or a Honda Civic?

Why was the deficit 8 billion dollars? Ask Governor Terminator and his pal Ken Lay, who (among others) raped your state to the tune of 9 billion dollars over energy. And watch Governor Arnold settle with those c**ksuckers at 2 cents on the dollar, and quash Bustamante's court case to get full retribution.

Though I wish him all the luck in the world, I think you would have done better to elect Homer Simpson governor. Glad I don't live in California.

Remember the Rethugnican mantra: Privatize the Profits, Socialize the Costs, and Leave No Millionaire Behind.
