| Hi guys, question for ya, I have a user who's excel is opening a spreadsheet twice (doesn't matter which file he chooses) We tried opening from within excel and by double clicking the file without excel open. I know if I remove and reinstall office that will fix the problem, but is there an easier way? | |

| In his mouse propeties, is the "Single-click to open an item" chosen? | |

| Hi Matt, nope, mouse works like normal. And, when I first took the machine up to him (brand new) it was working fine. I know he did something but I dunno what.
Oik I was afraid of that. I'll look for a bit more tho, just in case | |

Winterwolf, back up the registry & delete the Excel Key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mic
rosoft\Office\
(8.0 or 9.0)\Excel
Then restart Excel, that should rebuild the registry key minus any corrupt data that may have existed before.
Hope that helps... | |

| Something similar has happened here lots of times before. It's because when they had the spreadsheet open, they hit Window, then New Window then saved the spreadsheet. From then on, when they open that particular file, two copies of it will open. Get rid of it by closing one of the extra copies, then doing a Save. Then when you open the file again, there should only be one copy. | |

| Ok, I tried those ideas, no luck So then I removed office, including all ref's in the registry, and reinstalled. STILL doing it. *sigh* any more ideas? I've never had the reinstall not work... | |

| Well, we seem to be ignoring the obvious!
Of course the most reliable and affordable way is to do the following:
1) Get OpenOffice, StarOffice or Applixware
2) Get any good distro - BSD or Linux
3) Install the guy a productive workstation.
4) Blow a kiss to Messrs. Engulf & Devour (Bill & Steve of Redmond, WA).
5) Enjoy the liberation of mind and machine.
But that is just my humble opinion.

| Do a Start/Find and search for the folder XLSTART.
See if you have any files in the folder. If you have a file named "Insert Visio Button.xls" remove it.
Try that and see if it helps! |
