Before anyone can really help you, folks would need to know a little more about the "Long story" part. Such as what happened when you tried to upgrade? Did it fail and you then tried to boot into Win98? Are you trying to make your setup a dual boot system? The problem you are seeing is you might have a system that is half Win98 and half Win 2k depending on where the install quit.

| If they is not a lot of files on your computer, you'd be better off reformatting and doing it again, mate. | |

| well reformatting really is out of the question.
the story is i just tried to do and upgrade over win98 with win2k. the setup gets to a point where it says "Setup Cannot Verify Drive C" then "Setup Cannot Access CD with Windows Installation Files"
then it says press f3 to quit setup. that is done then the computer reboot. the bootloader screen comes up gives me a choice of either Microsoft Windows or Windows 2000 Setup . I choose Microsoft Windows and then that is where my other post starts
saying that there is files in the registry that are corrupt

You might not have a choice now. The best way to install Windows 2k is to do a clean install, then reinstall the programs you use. Windows 2k also prefers to be installed on a drive formatted as NTFS.

You might be working with a drive that is going bad. If I may ask, what kind of machine is this you are trying upgrade?

Sounds like the Windows 2k install trashed your Win98 install. If you don't have another hard drive available to reinstall one of them (Win98 or Windows 2K) clean then slave your old drive to copy the information you want to keep, you may have no choice at this point but to reformat and start over.
