I have found it useful to have custom text files on my PDA (i.e. tables, company information, lists, ERP reports etc.)

Here is an easy and free way to convert text to DOC files for PDA’s.

Download this small utility called mackedoc.exe from

http://www.cognitiveroot.com/makedoc.htm

Install MakeDoc into a folder called (for instance) MD (makes it easier to type in command line later on). Save any file to text in the MD folder.

For example, you save a cost report pulled from your system and saved as c:\md\ItemCost.txt

From command prompt run MakeDoc and type in according to the syntax.

Makedoc8 itemcost.txt Itemcost.pdb “Item Cost Report”

It will convert the file to DOC file, which can be uploaded into your PDA. Upload it to your PDA using Hot Sync then use a DOC reader to view it on your PDA.

A good freeware DOC reader is AportisDoc Reader available on the internet.

If you use Pilot Install to add a file to your PDA, it will automatically convert it to a PDB, without any intervention on your part.

EDIT: To clarify, it does not make the original file a PDB, only the copy it sends to your PDA.
