Not one that is secure.
In cases using windows 98 a good way to keep people off of it in general is to use a screen saver password with a low time out say one minute before the Screen saver kicks in.
Then also use a bios password that prompts at boot.
A tech savy person could get around both but the general users wont know how.

| It does have a option for different users to log-on.
Go to Contrl Pannels and look for User accounts (i think). And play around with it.
But I dont think win 98 gives protection against some other user acessing your doccuments.
Hope this helps!!!

Thats when the bios password comes into play.
When the machine is restarted they will be prompted with a password.
You can set it by going into setup on your PC.
You should get someone to show you how to set it as there are several different bios systems out there.

| let's say i close my computer and leave, then someone comes to my office and starts the pc.how can i avoid that besides locking up the pc or changing the lock? | |

I'll say this one more time
use a bios password.
IT prompts them when the machine is booted or rebooted, before windows even loads.
You can't get around it.
You have to know the password.
THe only way around it is to take the case cover off and remove or short the bios battery and sometimes change jumpers.
But if your that paranoid and trust your coworkers that little then buy a secure operating system like windows 2000 or XP and require a logon.

when you start your computer you should see
something that says "press f1 to enter setup"
It may be the delete key or f2 or a combination of keys that gets you into setup.
setup = bios by the way.
BIOS = Binary Input Output System.
Once in the BIOS you may have to hunt for the "boot password" or "startup password".
When you find it you will have to enter the password your boss chose, then save your changes and exit.
Most BIOS will have a command key at the bottom or top on how to use the interface.
At your experience level if you have any doubts about a change don't make it, changes to the bios can affect system performance or make it not even boot.
The Change you want to make won't affect performance or its ability to boot though.

I havent dont it.. but i think you will have to restart it, press "del" at the restart untill BIOS appears.
Look for something to do with password. That should be it.
Save and exit.
Make sure you dont loose the password as Chodan said it's not recoverable.
Chodan--- man you can eloberate further.. lol
