| which diets are the best and why. | |
| Boulware5 2003-01-01, 3:35 pm |
| Well the answer a lot of people will tell you is Diet + Exercise. I love fast foods but I work out a lot and am pretty active and in shape. So maybe exercise cancels out the bad diet for me. | |
| gr33nd4yg1rl 2003-01-01, 5:28 pm |
| Low Fat
Low Carb
Low Food
Diet + excercise
Exercise only | |
| mindmesh 2003-01-01, 5:37 pm |
| Any of the above diets will work if you Exercise. If you want to loose weight fast go with the Atkins. You have the potential to loos about 10 - 20 lbs in the first two weeks, although it isn't good to do so as it is really bad for you heart.
As for the fast food, I would stay away from it if you are currently overweight. Some people are built to metabolize the Fat and Carbs better then others.
The Gym is excellent and makes you feel good but it is so hard to start the routine. Good luck and good health.

| I thought I saw a little while back studies that concluded the Atkins diet was actually safe for you in the long run. | |

I belive it to be safe.
It isn't the easiest diet in the world to follow but it is less torture than low fat.
Very low fat diets can be detrimental to your health also.
I think it is somewhat of a balancing act.
I plan on going back on the Adkins induction till I hit my goal then do the maintenance from then on out.
I ussually go into work way early so I plan at stopping at the mall on the way in and walking for a half hour regularly enstead of stopping for a buiscuit sandwich.
Also no more soda's and sweets "a given on a low carb plan"

| They best diet depends on the person and their own body size and mass. Also it depends on that person past & present medial history. Before going on any diet one should talked to their doctor. | |

what is the atkins diet?
| RichardJW 2003-01-02, 9:05 am |
| Reduce fat in your diet. Eat less. Even vigorous exercise burns far less calories than you might expect. Exercise on the other hand is great to stay in shape. The long and the short of it is that if you want to lose weight by exercising then you will have to do a lot. However, you can only do that degree of exercise if you are fit in the 1st place ... Choline and inositol and various other supplements may help people to lose weight. | |

The atkins diet is a diet where you completely cut out all Sugar, starches, caffine, and most carbs.
The only thing you can eat is meat and green leafy vegetables during the induction ( which is supposed to be about two weeks). Then the maintenance is a life long diet when you add more vegetables back into your diet.

Its supposed to be very healthy, especally for men. It is also called the testosterone diet as your body tends to produce more. It also tends to make your body produce more HDLC ( good cholesterol) and less LDLC (Bad Cholesterol). Just make sure you take a good vitamin supplement and essentail oil pills to make up foor what you won't get from your food.
The only thing is that you don't want to loose fat too fast as it puts major strain on your heart.
You know what the funnies thing is. A bunch of guys talking about diets and actually having to explain them to the lady in this thread. What is the world coming too? Must be true what they say, men are becoming more obsessed with their looks then women.

| Why do people ask stuff like this when they already know the answer? I think we can sum up any effective diet in three words:
1) Spinach
2) Tuna
3) Exercise
No, putting butter in your spinach or mayonnaise in your tuna is not allowed. Straight out of the can, heating allowed. Yes, exercise for at least one-half hour a day. If in doubt, just remember: If it tastes good, it's off-limits.

The atkins diet actually promotes eating lots of butter and oil for the fat content. And if you like steak you can eat it just can't have a potato with it. You can eat mayo but it has to be sugar free mayo. Tuna is good but he suggests eating something with a higher fat content so as to promote ketosis.
Read the book. But never sucessfully completed the diet. I like potatoes and Fruit. But I think I might try again because I like Steak More!!!

I wasn't talking about the Atkins diet, but the diet that most people already know about but don't want to hear about. Everybody knows how to lose weight. It's very simple. But not easy, as one has to work for it.

| Chocolate and ice cream.
The best diet there is. | |
|
| Definitly Diet + workout | |
| jonhiker 2003-01-02, 3:15 pm |
| A balanced diet with exercise of almost any kind. The trick is to be good 90% of the time so you can be bad 10% of the time.
Everything is essential, even fats & cholesteral.

| Red meat and good Ale, throw in a potatoe or two.
Good diet. The secret is to have enough Muscle mass that you can eat as much as you want to. Though going to the gym three to four times a week gets a little dull.

| Another thing that you should consider is size of the meal. It is actually better to have 5 to 6 small meals (Yogurt and a fruit would be considered a meal in this sense) than one large one. Your body can't process all the food in a large meal, and much of it will go to fat storage then. Also, try to not eat things within like 2 to 3 hours of when you are planning to sleep. Your body won't have time to burn this off also.

| Well I started yesterday with the low carb thing,
I also started walking at a mall on the way to work.
Instead of stopping for a biscuit and gravy on the way to work I stop at the mall and walk for 30 to 40 minutes.
I walk at a pretty good clip normally and I wind up passing the old folks 3 or 4 times while walking.
They tend to spend more time at it though.
I get there at 7:00 or 7:10 and they have already been at it for awhile.
When I leave they are still there strolling along.
I had back surgury a few years ago and was told by the surgeon to walk 3 to 5 days a week.
I'm sure my back will feel better when I've done it for a few weeks, not that it hurts mind you it just gets tired too easy.

They might do that too.
I am extremely harry
I'm feeling better already from the walking and lost a few pounds.
I'm not too overweight but want to head it off before it gets out of control.
6 feet tall and weighed 216 pounds a week ago.
My long term goal is to get to 180.
That was my "fighting weight" when I was in martial arts and competing.
I don't think I'll be in that shape again because of my back but i'd like to be reasonably heathly.

| Its a fact of life that the older you get the slower your metabolism gets. So you need to adjust your intake accordingly.
Ive given up eating lunch at work and my weight has stabalised at around 210pds
