Advice on furthering Certifications

| I'd just like to get some general advice on this; I realize it is my decision. As you can see I have a few certs: A+, Net+, I-Net+, Linux+, Sair LCP, Server+, and 3 MCP tests, one away from MCSA.
I started college (took a bit of an academic sabatical, I'm 19) last spring and have stopped taking certs. Right now I'm working, teaching an i-Net class to a couple students, and administering that school's (tech school) network while going to college. Well, originally I decided to major in CS, I have since changed my major to Math and Physics, because I'm deeply interested in mathematics as well as the scholarly endeavor of physics.
I'm also somewhat caught in the proverbial rock and a hard place. I have into and learning about computers and technology from a very young age, it has almost become a part of who I am. I realize once I get into the bulk of my college studies they will take up the majority of my time and thought, my question is should I continue to pursue an advanced knowledge of technology and certification ... or simply allow that part of me to "die" .. well much thanks in advance

| what was your goal in taking all those certs in the starting??? I mean, everybody should have a goal.
If your goal was to get a job and you've found one, FINE. If your goal was to become a specialist and you're one, FINE. If your goal was to become a scientist and you're one, FINE. If your goal was to have fun and you've had it, FINE.
But there's gotta be a goal there buddy. ELSE, NOT FINE!.

| why is it not fine to receive a fine?
or
if you find you have been fined you don't feel fine?
why is it if you mispell goal you end up in gaol?
as for the certs, are they going to help you in which ever direction you are going? if so get some more, if not move on and put your efforts into your new direction.

| I don't think you should view it as an Either/or situation. Your computer knowledge isn't going away. Simply apply it to your new area of endeavor. Computer skills are like any other. If you don't use it, you lose it. Broaden your scope. Computer Science is, after all, a sub-field of mathematics. Plenty of computational work in Physics. | |

I agree with supertech, it is not a either-or... your certs will go a long way at 19, and when you apply for grad school those will differentiate you and someone else who has the same GPA... |
