| A+. go for that if ur into hardware. ur cert for software, depends on what software your after.
programming = MCSD
networking = MCSE
db admin = MCDBA
i'm a little bit on the M$ side so don't worry. u'll find other people who'll recommend Cisco and Comptia Certs. just be patient
cheers,

| what kind of call-outs do you intend to make: domestic or commercial?
for domestic call outs, a+ and network+ are probably adequate certifications, in my opinion. maybe mcp in win2k and xp too.
for commercial call outs, probably mcsa or mcse. the cool thing about mcsa is that you can use your a+ and network+ to help gain it.
as for hardware/software, you will obviously need screwdrivers, torch and perhaps anti-stat bags and mats. i would also carry norton utils and others will post what other utils you could also carry.
and don't forget to have some spares on hand to swap out components to try to eliminate faulty hardware. ram, powersupplies, video cards, sound, nics. i always think a laptop with network and modem would be handy to download and transfer drivers in some cases. | |

| I think you should consider the CompTIA A+ certification first. This is a big deal for entry level positions and is one of the most recognized certs in the IT field as well. Afterwards Network+ is the next cert you should focus your attention. Put together A+ and Network+ will give you a good foundation for advanced level certs like MCSA/MCSE. | |

| The MCSE does not teach you "networking" - it teaches you how to use Microsoft products. Just a point of clarification. | |
