Still looking eh

DDS is really storage capacities for Digital Audio Tape (DAT) originally to be used for music.

Travan was the last hoorah for the cheap tape drives. All the others have cheap tape expensive drives. This is the reverse, cheap drives, expensive tape.

I use DAT myself, wouldn't buy another for personal use now that DVD-RW is here.
Oh you also probably want to look up AIT which is the current big server tape drive.

| Look at either the Microsoft Press Server+ book or the IDG Dummies book on Server+. One of these two had a nice chart that talked about access speeds of the tape, max. storage capacity, max. years for storage, etcetra... DLT tape drives were used by Digital Equipment and Compaq quit heavily and were made mostly by Quantum! DLT stands for Digital Linear Tape, biggest last I saw or used was DLT 7000. Personnaly, I prefer the AIT Tape Drive Libraries or stand-alone drives. Sony did it right by allowing the units to be upgraded by replacing the BIOS on the AIT tape drive etcetra,... Been there and done that several years ago -- sweet!! Did not have to touch the backup software after the HW upgrade. Also, look at the SCSI chart for cable lenghts and number of devices available on the chain -- critical for my exam I took back in May!
As for the exam, I strongly recommend the Server+ Bible by Trevor Kay and you are likely to have a couple of questions on DLT & DDS tape drives (mainly capacity and where most likely to be used). If I dig out my notes from all the Server+ books I crossed referenced before I took my exam, I will repost the page numbers & titles so you can stop off at the bookstore to read up on it. | |
