Tricky Video Problem

| Hi there,
I'm setting up a small IT suite for visually impaired students.
3 days of the week the suite is to be used to deliver an educational package and the other two days it will be used as an internet cafe/gaming room
We are using a couple of pieces of accessible technology to enable the students to use the PC's. One being a software package called ZoomText.
When you install ZoomText it installs its own proprietary video card driver called ZtxDrv.dll which it needs to intercept the video related information and to carry out its function. This replaces the main video card driver.
The unfortunate side effect of this is that it disables Direct3D functions and appears to have the same effect on OpenGL.
If I try to play a 3D game now the computer reboots. So this is obviously not what you need when you are trying to set up a gaming room. The only way I can think of getting around this is to install a second video card and use separate hardware profiles for the students and on the days when the room will be used for gaming.
Obviously this is not ideal and involves further expense. Has anyone ever dealt with anything similar and got any advice?

| if you set up user accounts would it solve the problem? | |

| Not as far as I am aware m8, I'm pretty sure with user accounts you can't specify the use of different system files. | |

| Hmmm...
Can you try to configure Dual-boot?
2 Operating Systems, like Win2000 and Win2000-1.
That should be easy to do.

| nice idea deja, although i wouldn't go for w2k for games.
dual boot w2k and win98, or dual boot xp and xp.

Thnx Deja-vue | |

| I wrote to their help desk for you.
They said:
"Peter,
The user's plan might work. (install a second video card and use separate hardware profiles for the students and on the days when the room will be used for gaming...) But it might get him into a position where ZoomText would not work. With two video cards, the GDICHAIN.ini is going to get complicated.
My suggestion would be to install and uninstall ZoomText as necessary. The installation goes fast. The person could even copy the ZoomText CD to the hard drive. If they do so, they'll need to install with a command line parameter.
setup /acd
And the person installing (or reinstalling) would need to have access to the ZoomText serial number."
Have you tried Jaws for Windoze?
I correspond with a blind guy in South Carolina (big video game fan) & he had me install Jaws so I could understand how he uses his 'puter.
