Why not try Linux+ first as an intro to Linux/Unix.

I used Rod Smith's Linux+ Study Guide from Sybex, and that was all I needed. I got it from Amazon. As for Unix certs, there is SAIR, LPI, Linux+, RHCE, SCO ACE, HP-UX, SCSA, AIX Administration, and so on. There are quite a few. What flavour of Unix do you use?
