| I am going back to school soon and getting my associates in general studies and then going to get my bachelors in general studies my question is for all of you is if you saw this on a resume would it be worth anything to you. I know that a Computer Science degree would be best but I may get that after the first bachelors but right know it will only take me about 2 years to get both the associates and bachelors in general studies and about 4 to get the computer science one. I have a lot of classes just in the general stuff.
But would it matter much to a hiring manager that I had a bachelor in general studies with concentration in math and science?
It is from a well known university actually they went to the final game in the ncaa tourney last year and one of its play just got drafted at number 11(wonder who it could be?).
I realize a degree in anything is better than nothing but how much better. Do you think the adds that ask for a 4 yr degree really care if it is a CS degree? Or do you think that my experience, certs and the general education degree will be good?
any comments welcome and apprieciated

Yes.If a posistion asks for a CS or MIS degree(thats obvious). If its a IT/Comp related job and the posistion asks/requires a BS I can safely say that it would go without saying what kind of degree they would be looking for.

| I believe a college degree is definitely of much greater benefit than no college degree at all, and a college degree combined with certifications is all you should really need to succeed due to the rapidly changing and continually evolving nature of the IT industry. For the reason that the pace of technological change is increasingly more rapid, many technologies that were cutting edge just 10 years ago are now outdated today, and as a consequence, are being replaced by entirely newer and more innovative technologies. Your main focus, therefore, should be to concentrate on acquiring a college education first because of its proven benefits, and then, thereafter, always striving to remain current with the latest and greatest technologies. |
