I have been trying to sort out a problem with Prometric for the last 2 months and i want others to beaware that when you book an exam make sure the testing centre is open and does your exam or you loose your money..

This is what happened with me. I had booked my A+ OS exam through Prometric and on the day of exam i go to the testing centre and to my disappointment the exam centre had been closed for few weeks and the lady said i dont know why Prometric still send the candidates here for exam when we have informed them and stuff. The lady at testing centre told me to ring them and let them know that the testing centre was closed.

I rang Prometric told them the testing centre was closed and i was put through customer care who was willing me to help find another location for me to take the test. After about 30 minutes and finding that the nearest testing centre to me is about 60 odd miles we decide to take the exam next week. I was told at that time i wont have to pay for the exam and i made sure i understood that my credit card wont be charged. To my horror when i got my credit bill next month i had been charged by Prometric for an exam which i hadnt taken. I rang them and explained them why was i charged if the mistake was on your part etc but they said you have to pay for the exam and your second exam was free blah blah. I asked them how can i pay when i didnt take the exam and argued. I was told if you are not happy email us and i said can i speak to customer care or manager there since the lady couldnt understand english she cut me off.

My whole point of this thread is i am still going to fight for the exam fees and do what i can but i want to make sure that others dont loose money. SO please be aware when you book your exams if your testing centre is closed and dont run any exams then you will loose the exam fees and there is no such thing as free exams which Prometric tell you.

It all boils down to money and there is no such as customer service or anything give us your money no matter....i am going to try not to use Prometric again and try to find another way of giving my exams...

VUE for thee. take my word son.

I've also got that taste of yours.

PROMETRIC suck. ten times and a half.

I always make a point of double checking with the testing center. One hand doesn't always know what the other is doing. Testing centers come and go (about like computer shops).

Following this procedure, I have never had a bad experience with Prometric. I follow the same routine with VUE.

VUE user here.

But I agree. To check out and/or call the place you see listed as a centre to make sure they handle exams and are actually still there.

I always test with VUE. I can walk in any time M-Sat and take a test by registering on the fly. I do this because I never know when I'll get a wild hair up my butt to just go take a test that I've studying for. I do try to prepare and plan for a specific day, but it is not always possible to do so.

Just out of curiosity, how many tests did Prometric charge to your credit card, 1 or 2?

One of course but like they said that was suppose to be free cause it was there mistake. So if the OS was free which i took at later date why charge for something that i havent used and was told when booking the test oh i see you have a promo code...lol well some promo code it was...it cost be £113...lol
oracle-dba99

2002-06-03, 4:23 pm

It could be just a misunderstanding - they might have meant the replacement test would be free?

Just let it go man, you sat for one exam, you paid for one exam, hopefully you passed it as well. Besides, your employer would reimburse you for the test fee, I don't see
what the big deal is.

Take it easy.

I find it hard to believe someone who's been a member for 3 days and has 11 posts could possible speak for anyone but himself.

When I need speaking for I'll do it myself thanks
UKBoy has been nothing but helpfull to me and a great many other members on this forum, if you don't like his sense of humor, contact him privately or at least don't speak for me when you post

I have used both Vue & Prometric and have never had any problems so I feel lucky. I think you should write Prometric and ask for how many others had taken an exam at the "closed" testing center during the time that it was supposely closed. Kind of like an old "Texas Aggie Joke", how do you make a Aggie go Crazy, stick them in a round room and tell them to go pee in the corner! Then you need to you ask Prometric for a copy of your test score and also how many others passed or failed that time! Maybe you should also ask them for a photocopy of the sign in sheet to proof you or anybody else even was able to take an exam during that time (or weekly) frame!

I am with you on fighting for the principle of the matter about getting screwed. In so doing for the fight, I hope the company you work for appreciates the effort as well. Some employees would simply say its not my money and blow it off and re-submit another voucher for payment to accounting. IT budgets are mostly running lean and that might save something you need for later on the job.

Those clowns at prometric almost screwed me also. I booked online for my exam and had chosen the last day possible to sit the exam at the testing centre in town that was closing. I called well in advance to confirm with them and they said they were closing almost a month before my booked date. The centre said they had informed prometric on numerous occasions and they had simply kept their thumb in their bum. I had to re-book my exam and had a total of about 1.5 months to study for both the core and OS. Needless to say, I was highly unimpressed. I took the challenge and passed anyways, so I'm not overly bitter, I just want to know why they are so unprofessional. I wonder how many excited students showed up to a locked door for the last month and then had to deal with these dipshits on the phone for hours..... I will never use them again, or if I do I will treat them like a two year old (like I did in the first place) and call the centre myself to get the low down.

Wicket on that day i saw atleast 4 others whose name was on list before me and who knows how many were after me...

oracle-dba99 its a matter of principle dont you get it. I am lucky i get my fees paid by the company but what about others who are not in the same position as me and they end up loosing is that fair ? The big deal is they are wrong and when they said cause of your trouble and blah blah we will give you a free exam then thats what i expect not to be charged and still class it as free. I took a day off that and not only did i loose a days wages but only lost the exam fees why cause of someone else and you are telling me its not a big deal...lol Well my friend its a matter of principle and i will ring them and email them till i finally get to talk to a manager or someone.

I beleive this is more of an issue with the specific testing center , rather than Prometric them selves.

I personally have had better luck with Vue, by far. But this Vue testing center I usually use has also decided to reboot the server in the middle of me taking a test once & crashed the whole thing. That shows an incomplete/failed test result on the other end. [ CompTIA - M$ - Etc. ] It makes for a drawn out mess to straighten up.

None of them are perfect as in any chain/franchise.

You paid with a credit card.

You can verify to your issuing bank that your exam was not consummated, and that their word was not kept.

You can use your credit card account privileges to protect yourself from what appears to be fraudulent behavior from good companies. Get on it quick, and talk to your bank directly.

Good luck getting some other way to take exams which are issued only through Prometric.

Taking someone's money and failing to provide the promised service is fraud. Make sure you are clear on what your agreements with Prometric were at the time you permitted your account to be charged.

Use VUE instead to register and schedule your own exams. YOU can do all this plus select your preferred testing site yourself without having to rely on someone else on the other end of a line.

I've never had a problem with Prometric. In fact, I prefer them over Vue. the only time I ever dealt with them, I was in the middle of taking an exam, when I accidentlly bumped the cables under the computer. Somehow it screwed up the test, and from that point on, after every question I answered, I got the same error message. It required extra mouse clicks and wasted time just to advance to the next question. Went to complain to the test admin (WHILE the clock was running! Yow!) they went and got someone to look at it, and of course he didn't show up until I was almost done with the exam. And YES, there was someone else there in the room while I was doing my test. It's felt weird talking to someone there in the test room, as quiet as it is supposed to be. Test Admin told me to tell Prometric about it which I did. Prometric gave me the next exam for half-price. I just like Prometric better than Vue.

Besides, other than Prometic or Vue, how are you gonna schedule your exam? Grow up, and learn to take this stuff like a man. At least you're lucky and work pays for the exam. the rest of us (like me) have to pay for the exams ourself. You have nothing to complain about, as far as I'm concerned.

Get a life.

eyeccd I am man and i take it as a man and i could sit on my XXX and do nothing apart since its not my money but like i said its a matter of principle and how would you like it if you were in my shoes and had to pay for it ?. Btw one of the engineer has now the same problem...he is doing the same thing as me i guess he is not a man enough.

I am going to go with Vue i am sure they will be better then Prometric..

I'm a VUE user.

I feel it was a mistake made by prometric. They might have charged u before u went to the center that was on vacation.

I believe thoseguys might refund ur money ifu proof ur points properly although we have so many parasites in the world now.

I still have not recieved one email from Prometric but finally i heard from my credit card company and they said they are looking into it..

so finally i am hoping for some good news but its shame that a complain cant put against Prometric.

I've never had an issue with Prometric but I never register on-line, I call directly and speak to a representative...that way they check availability and everything else while I'm talking to them.
Suggest others try this!

I have always booked by test by calling them too and on the morning of test i rang back to check what time it was on and stuff and she checked and said you are having it and at this center blah blah so its doesnt mean they know what they are doing. Best thing i would advice is check if there testing center is open and stuff.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Prometric.

I've scheduled 10 exams through Prometric and have never had a problem. I've never used Vue because I've never had a reason too, so I can't say one is better than the other.

I just hope things will eventually work out for you harryp.

Good luck.

If you can try to get vouchers then you should have not to use a credit card. If they allow this mail the payment to them it may take a while to process but it is not on your credit card. When you give out a credit card it is like a free pass to spend on me.
