Author Internal alarm from Windows XP

My shift colleague has a PC on which he has recently loaded XCP Professional. Quite often, the PC's internal speaker emits a low frequency two-tone alarm. He has checked the BIOS settings for alarm trigger levels and they are OK.

What could be causing this infernal noise?

I know someone who has an epox board that will start beeping the most annoying sound if the cpu/mobo reaches a certain temp. It can be rectified by setting the alarm range to a lower setting in the bios. If this still doesn't work then just unplug the speaker wire.
