| Well, first of all make sure the Microsoft Exchange Server Directory Service is started. Then make sure you have all available Service Packs/patches loaded. | |
|
| Thanks Tech Shark for ur reply.
this morning when i started my machine, i got an alert saying:-
WINS could not start due to a missing or corrupt database.
i searched for wins.mdb file and it is there, but the log file isnt. i'm sure i did not delete it. my DNS is not sarting either. even the Exchange services are not starting. these were all fine till yesterday. what could have gone wrong? is there a workaround this issue co'z i dont want to reinstall everything again!!! | |

| go into your event viewer and check out microsoft.com/support
see if you can get an explanation for whats gone wrong | |

| Definitely check your event viewer. That should help you figure out what is wrong with DNS & Exchange.
For the WINS error you are getting, try to restore the WINS database with WINS manager or by using the resource kit utility winscl.exe. Then restart the WINS service. If you still get the error then you'll need to load a fresh copy of the database. Here's a technet article to help you do that:

Hope that helps you out | |

| thank you both for your input.
i managed to figure out what was wrong. the service for the event log was not started. and i think maybe WINS is dependent on event log, and so the error. now my WINS is working fine. But I still have a problem with my DNS server. In the event log under DSN server, there is no error. There is an entry saying the DNS server has been started. But under the system log, the is an error from source DHCP server saying:
------
The DHCP/BINL service has determined that it is not authorized to service clients on this network for the Windows domain: xyz.com.
------
xyz.com is the domian that i created through the active directory on this machine. I have also made this machine a domian controller. I have created a DNS server called computer2.xys.com where computer2 is the name of this machine.
The DNS was working fine till yesterday. I'm still looking in to the cause of this failure. I wonder, could it be the network card problem?
I'm meanwhile downloading SP5 co'z on the site file:// C:\back%20up%202\sites\Inst...rver
.htm it says that minimum requirements for win2000 is Exchange Server 5.5 with SP3 or later.
Hope things continue to improve... |
