Internet Sharing Connection

| Hi,
I am configuring internet connection for a PC with Win ME by adding a NIC and cross cable to a PC(Win98SE) that is hooked up to a cable modem.
On the PC(Win98SE), there are 2 NIC's, one to the cable modem and the other cross-connected to the NIC of PC-Win ME. ICS is installed and the external NIC is set to "Internet Connection Sharing", internal NIC is also set such that IP is automatically obtained(so is the NIC of PC-Win ME).
Now the IP addresses of internal NIC of PC-Win98SE and NIC of PC-Win ME are 192.168.0.X. The PC-Win ME can ping anywhere inside and outside the internal LAN, but the problem is that I cannot use internet browser to access internet except the homepage of my the ISP providing the cable connection.
I can ping the DNS of my ISP and any IP addresses on the PC-Win ME but just cannot use a browser to access internet.
Anyone has experienced this and give me some hints?
TIA,
Goku

| Guessing on the browser here, but if you are using Internet Explorer, access Internet Options from the Tools menu. On the Connections tab, make sure that "Never Dial A Connection" is selected. Then on the same tab under "Local Area Network (LAN) settings," click on "LAN settings." Make sure the check boxes for "Automatically detect settings," "Use automatic configuration script," and under Proxy server, "Use a proxy server" are all unchecked. Good luck! | |

| Thanks Zaraspook
The points you mentioned have been done, but still I cannot make it, seems that the DNS doesn't work on the new PC. I have configured ICS with Win98SE and W2K before and they just work fine, I may need to consider re-installing the PC(s) to make ICS work...

| On your ME box , enter the ip of the dns server of your ISP in the tcp IP config box.
Try that.
ME seems to be quite finiky in doing a lot of things. | |

| flext,
My ISP only provides one IP and "allows" one connection per user, it seems the MAC address of external NIC is memorized and checked before a public IP address is assigned.
secondskin,
Still no success after setting the IP of dns, and I've decided to re-install the OS on the machines..
