Hello everyone,

Please help me out with one.........

I have a Windows NT 4.0 network of 50 users....all connected over a LAN.
The NT server has DHCP enabled and is a PDC server.
The IP pool is from 172.28.39.10 - 200.
Reserved address are 172.28.39.1 (for Router) and 172.28.39.20 (for Netware Server).
I am trying to install RAS on this server for the Laptop users to connect and access their MS Exchange mail.
The RAS sever uses DHCP to assign address to the connected users.

Scenario 1: When the laptop users connect to the RAS server while they are not in office......they are assigned a IP address from the DHCP server with the exact DNS server address , Gateway and Subnet mask.
EVERYTHING WORKS FINE.

Scenario 2: When the laptop users connect to the RAS server using a PPP connection while also connected to the office LAN....they are assigned a proper IP address..........but ALL WRONG DNS SERVER (162.xxx.xxx.xxx), Gateway (some wrong address), Subnet (255.255.0.0)(the subnet shd be 255.255.255.0).

Could anyone help me figure out where I am going wrong ?
Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

What OS is on the laptops and what service packs are you running on the NT servers?

Which box is doing DNS? Is the Novell box doing anything other than File\ Print for services?

Digiboard? Multimodems?

Regarding scenario 2, are the user's connecting from a foreign LAN and if so what IP subnet scheme is being used?

First thoughts....

If clients are 95 must have Dun 1.3 installed. Try creating an exclusion range in DHCP for your RAS users and specifying that scope for use in the static address pool. This was a solution to many ills with RAS. Try re-servicepacking the RAS box.
