| I think the os just marks the file as erased so you know longer see it but it does not remove it from the drive.There are way to bring back the file as long as nothing else thas been writen to the Clusters that the file was in.They do this to speed things up.
Maybe I am wrong and it may be Associated entries in the FAT are removed I don't think it is any of the others | |

| this is what happens to any deleted file (in M$ anyway and before win2k)
the first letter is removed and the fat entry is also removed
if you have access to ms-dos v6.22
try using undelete
it's a pretty cool command (now I know I'm a geek)
it gives you a list of undeletable files and you have to supply the first character (it shows up as a ? which we all know is not usable in dos) |
