| Alright I walked into work today and my manager asked me to come into Her office and she told me their that I have been recruited for a position that has been opened up in the company's network admin dept. I did not even know that the manager of the net. admins knew who I was. Any way I have no real world experience with doing network admin jobs. I have done them in my home lab but that was with Win2000 and they are running WinNT and the only experience I have with that is from what I do at the Helpdesk. Well my question is what is the best way to approch this interview, since it is within company. Any advise would be great and mabye some help with getting info on the differences on win NT and Win2000.
Oh also they are working in test labs with getting win2000 ready for production, so I have that going for me.
Thanks in advance for any help

| Awesome! The other manager probably asked your manager for recommendations, and you're it -- which means you're getting somebody's attention. (A company that hires from within... there are any left?!)
Since you don't know this person you are interviewing with, I would treat it as if it were an interview with another company. The plus side is that she probably already knows you don't have "real world" experience, and the pool of candidates is probably limited to internal folks (or maybe just you).
Good luck and let us know how it goes!

| You have more understanding of NT than you think through your dual MCP status in win2k. Remember, 2K was built on the NT platform, so your skills will carry over very well in many instances.
If you are asked whether you have any questions, ask them if they have a problem that they have been struggling with recently, then attempt to troubleshoot it in real time. You may not find the answer right off, but you will show them that
1. you make problems yours
2. you can think on your feet
3. you will display your abilities and understanding of the NT platform through your logic and reasoning.
All in all, not a bad day at the office

| By the way, if you want to read up on NT for free, check out my website. I have a lot of study guides for NT server and workstation there... let me know if I can help! |
