It seems in this day and age, The term geek is some what a good thing, Unlike ten years ago when it meant you were 72 lbs with glasses that had nothing better to do than play DnD with your imaginary friend named Fred (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Im just curious as to how everyone else looks at it, and how they look at them selfs as someone who knows more than the basic's about IT.

With that head biting thing, I guess that makes Ozzie Osborne a geek. Not exactly what I was thinking of in the way of a geek.

A geek? explain. 24 hour junkie on a computer or at a bar also talking computers. lol possibly might be.

But on my behalf i do other things to relax me from the computer field and business.

I'm a party geek, usually when I'm not on here or studying for certs, I'm out doing something I shouldn't.
Daviet

2002-03-18, 5:09 pm

Amen to that, Actually, I have to study twice as much to get things to stick, simply because of all the brain cell's that get demolished From Partying just a little to much on the week-ends.

Ok just because of all my Fav's on IE are comp sites. And just because all I do at work or want to do is mess wiff the comp's. And just because when I am out partying I talk to everyone somehow one way or another about computers. And just because I mod my computer up like I do My Toyota Supra does not make me a geek. But then again ahhhhh well I guess I must admitt it some time. Hi my name is Paul and I am addicitaded to computers. <clap><clap><clap>. www.gideontech.com just a site I think you all will appriciate. Have a wonderful day.

Well, I am still struggling with admitting that I am a geek. I feel like I'm coming out of the wiring closet or something here!

I use to always be into cars. That was me. I have a 69 Cutlass that I love. 350 Rocket with Edelbrock Performer cam/intake, MSD billet dist. with MSD6AL ignition box with a Blaster 2 coil, Rochester carb, headers, and 3 inch duals out the back.

Then came the computers and this was just a work thing. Got thrown into being a techie at work. Basic printing, software, and hardware troubleshooting. Then came the PC at home from work. Now......I'm just confused! Do I like cars or do I like computers?

It's the internal struggle. Grease Monkey VS Computer Geek. It's an epic battle!

Have I rambled enough? (You'll notice this from me in future posts.....long winded!)

I am a toss up between Party Geek and Quiet Geek. That is......if I actually admit it!

I guess I am a party geek when I want to be. I know when it's time to play or work. But hey I love being a geek

Can I still be considered a party geek if I work an average of 70 hours a week? Well, I'm sure this is true for at least a good portion of you people. We work, then we come home and "play" by working on our websites or studying online for that "last" certification that we need. But I drink like a siv when there's a party and I do party.. when it doesn't conflict with me "playing". Geekiness isn't a choice, it's a requirement.

I wonder if the term "Geek" confused our British friends or if Frank is just playing around. Maybe Geek is just American slang that they're not getting.

Here is the definition from www.webopedia.com

"Short for computer geek, an individual with a passion for computers, to the exclusion of other normal human interests. Depending on the context, it can be used in either a derogatory or affectionate manner. Basically, geek and nerd are synonymous"

I think he was just playign around.. I hope anyway, Or mabey It is just a slang thing here in North America!?

at mid-life and changing careers, I strove to be a geek.

after a year, I was among the geeks.

at two years ,I was a peer of the geeks.

at 2 1/2 years, I was leading the geeks

at 3 years, I was leading the geeks over the cliff with margueritas.

at 3 1/2 years, I was amongst the PHBs on a mission for the geeks.

at 4 1/2 years, I was leading the geeks against the PHBs.

at five years, some geeks think that I am a lord high geek.

at 5 1/2 years, trying to be a specialist geek I have found the following to be true.

geeks are many
PHBs are more
girls who like geeks are rare

Geeks, regardless of which status you place yourself, RULE!! I have always been a geek. Even though I was 'most popular' I was still 'the geek' in every circle in Life. I had gotten used to the saying, "If you don't know how to use the program, get the geek to look at it." That geek was me! I party, enjoy Life, and love to learn. It has taken me a long time to get my husband to understand that he married a geek...period! Considering he was a geek hisself! GEEKS RULE!!
