most definitely a stick shift! I will never understand people who drive automatic transmissions -- at least in a sports car. There is something magical in the combination of a 4 cylinder engine, a manual tranny and a turbo
I love the 1.8T engine that VAG developed. It is an absolute blast to drive. I eat those silly little subaru WRXs every day for breaksfast
I almost bought a 911 when I turned 30. But then we had twins, and, well... priorities change

Anyway you couldn't drive a European car without Stick shift really....

| I've heard that Land rovers are not reliable at all.
Here in the US people make fun of it saying that reach people buy Land rover just to show off that they are so rich, they can afford a car that needs repaires every month.
I am also not a fan of US cars and trucks. It seems that almost every new model of US car or truck has some sort of recall a year after it comes out.
I only trust Japaneese cars. I have not had any experience with german cars so far, so can't comment on that.

| i dig my 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad-Cab (with the new 4.7L V8 and AWD). peppy and powerfull. better than any Ford Ranger or GM s-10/15 or any other smaller-sized truck. i don't think any of them could pull my boat like this one does. however, my durango with the 5.9L V8, although rather thisty, has some really nice torque. somehow the missus and i turned into dodge-folk... but then i also have my '65 VW Camperbus. with a semi-chromed dual-port 1600, bug packs (for that sweet sound) and 14" empi 5-spokes riding on a 3" all-around drop. | |

| Hello,
I have a beaten up old Ford Escort diesel, 14 years old, multicoloured (as I've changed the front doors and the bonnet due to rust)...
but at 70 mph on the motorways it still does almost 60 miles per gallon!

| Well on this one I would definetly have to go with my 86.5 Toyota Supra. Non turbo and automatic. But that will change with more money. Going to transplant the head and block of a later year so I can have the turbo. I am also going to change out the tranny to a 5 speed short shifter. :-) | |

It is true that Land Rovers can be unreliable,
but then you're probably refering to the Discovery, and the Range Rover, there's plenty more Land Rovers than just those models driving round the World.
I actually own a Series III Land Rover, it's 20 years old now, and yes I have to maintain it but off-roading is hard work on machines..
the Series III is similar in style to the vehicle used by Lara Croft in Tomb Raider..
It must be said that Japanese 4x4's are popular, but I don't recall seeing many 20 year old models driving about, most of them would have rusted away in that time.
It is testemant to Land Rover that near 70% of the vehicles produced are still driving somewhere in the world today(over 50 years of production), and that if you showed a picture of a true Land Rover to everybody in the world a big percentage would recognise it...

if you own a Ford you need to become a good mechanic or the garage bills will kill you. I've had mostly Fords in the last 33 years...

Yes I know what Fords can be like, I cuurently own a G reg van, god I hate it but it gets me to the jobs(sometimes)...
Has a tendancy to mis-fire after travelling on motorways for twenty minutes or so, then after pulling over and waiting two mins it's fine for another twenty or so, baffling if you ask me.....

| Currently, I own a '97 Ford Expedition 4x4, while my wife drives an '92 Nissan Maxima. My dream vehicle is actually several, depending on the application:

Off Road: '69 Ford Bronco 4x4 (Made for off-road fun. You know, 351, 4speed, Lockers and 35" tires).

| I had a ford explorer. Brought it to 90,000 miles and sold it. never had a problem with it.
My current Audi is at 65,xxx miles and kicking some serious butt
To the previous poster who mentioned Lamborghini, it is now owned by VAG... Yup, it is now a German car
By the way, Nissan is partly owned by Renault, the French brand. Interesting fact: when the Renault 19 first came out, it was the best selling car in Germany for a year and change...
The Latest Land Rover is basically a BMW. They were owned by the Bavarian brand, and recently sold, but the project that they released is the same as the one BMW built to be the top of their SUV line...

the new Land Rover, (your probably reffering to the Freelander)is manufactured in the UK, and was designed at Solihull(Home of Land Rover)and about the only thing BMW did for Rover was to up the quality of the manufacture, and help with engine design.

| The Hummer H2 is due out this fall here in the States. Comes standard with 315/75R-17 tires with 37-inchers optional. Has the interior of a Tahoe (no middle hump) and a diff locker in the rear. The engine is the 6.0 liter 320HP V-8. Have no idea what prices will be but the H1 Hummer goes for around $85K, so it will probably be around $55K.
For the money though, you could build one fine off-road vehicle for half or quarter of the H2 price.

that's exactly why i like it.. it's NOT a compact.. but i think it's actually closer in size to a ranger than a full-size. i've had 2 different rangers (and 86 4x4, and a 93 4x4 x-cab) and my father has always had chevys and one brother has a full-size dodge (2500). i can't really compare it to the f-150 since i haven't ever driven one but it does look pretty close to the new toyota tundra's size. but the real truth is that it's more of a mid-size truck with the power of a full-size.

It is not a BMW!
It is a Land Rover!!!
The Germans don't no diddly about 4 wheel drive technology, thats why they bought Rover so as to get that technology onboard to create their own 4x4's.(and to take the famous Mini from us)
The new range Rover was designed in House at Land Rover, and harks back to the original Range Rover and to the famous Riva speedboats.
Its off-road capabilities are outstanding, especially considering its monocoque design and lack of beam axles...
