2000 pro shutdown problem

| I have a problem I can't seem to solve. I built a machine around the first of
January and installed 2000 pro. It has worked fine until about a week ago. I installed updated drivers for my scanner and after doing that, it will no longer shutdown as it was doing before (soft powerdown). Now, it goes thru all the usual shut down messages, then gives me the blank blue screen which sits there for about a minute, then the screen goes grey and the red LED indicating hard drive use goes off. But the machine sits there with the fans running until I hold the power button in for about 5 to 10 seconds, at which time it all goes off. I have uninstalled the scanner drivers and even the scanner, but no change (I don't even know for sure if the driver update is what caused the problem). It does the same thing if I try to do a restart instead of a shut down.
Anybody ever run into anything like this, or have any ideas I could try?

| I would try booting from the WIN 2000 CD-ROM and selecting the "Repair a Windows 2000 installation" option. | |

| Thanks for the link Frank, but my problem wasn't listed there. What it is, is that I've lost the "soft power down" feature. When I shut down, it will go thru the normal shut down processes to a blank screen, but then won't turn the unit off. Also, if I click restart, it does the same thing....sits at the blank screen until I hit the reset button, or hold in the power button to turn the machine off. | |

| You said that it worked fine since you updated drivers for your scanner.
Did you try to do something about that?

| It worked fine UNTIL I installed new drivers for the scanner. I have since uninstalled the drivers....and even uninstalled the scanner....no help. I think I'll just start over, reformat the C drive, and do a clean install of 2000.
Thanks for all your input..it is appreciated.

| Did you check your Bios-Settings?
Power-Management?
Plug$Play ? yes/no ?
was it a SCSI-Scanner? | |

| Deja-vue....it is not a SCSI scanner and yes, I did go into bios and changed everything in the power management and PnP modules....no help. I'm beginning to think the computer is possessed!! |
