well not really job help i just need some opinions. i know the it field is not looking so hot right now but i live in jersey and ive seen alot of help desk openings around here. right now im working on my a+, server+, and network+ certs which i will be finishing soon. i plan to move on to mcse and mcsa certs right after that. well my question is what are the most plentyful jobs in the it field right now and what certs are needed just to get my foot in the door. right now im not looking for that big job im looking for around 40k and a decent job just to start off with. alson can someone who holds a help desk position or knows about the field tell me what it is you exactly do because i have heard many differant things. thanks

Do you have any experience in the field? If not 40K is pushing it for entry level helpdesk. Which also depends on your location. At least were I am an entry level Helpdesk agent makes about 25K to 30K a year the upper crust of those who have been with the company for 5 to 7 yrs on the helpdesk make aroun 45K, hope this helps

It depends on the helpdesk. Some do software support only for a particular software package (EX support for the Post Office's computers), other positions will support hardware (not hands-on) OR even both EX supporting State Farm's agents with t-shooting Word, hardware issues and the software package they use). Since you'll be a career changer, you might not have any experience and probably will not be make 40k. I would search for a company that has a helpdesk for both hardware and software and other helpdesk as well so when you get board of t-shooting the same thing day in and day out, you can move to a different helpdesk and get some different experience.

40K ???? You'll be LUCKY to get 30K and thats luck. Most of the helpdesk postions I see are starting at $10 - $12 per hour. The ones that pay more I've noticed are looking for college Degree's.

I search the Jersey Market all the time being as I live about 35 mins outside of Princeton and Have Family about 10 Mins outside of The City. 40K ??? And you don't have any certs yet. A+ will give you about a $.50 per hour raise, server + I have never seen any employer ask for. MCSA/MCSE are good to have but without the associated experience you probably won't get an interview. I want 35K and I'll be happy with it. Good luck to you man. If you want 40K become a Nurse, thats a booming Market.

HAHHAHA GOOD LUCK !!!!
I live in NJ and have a few certs and 3 years experience and I am not making $40k. I guess it beats unloading trucks (my former job)
You'll be lucky to find a job for $8.00 an hour. When I went to school they kept telling me I would be making $60K with an MCSE . I soon realized the truth . The job market is really tough now The company I work is getting resumes from CCIE's who can't find a job. So good luck on your job search.
