if they built new twin towers, would you work in em?
|
|
| HOOLIGAN 2002-12-20, 8:58 am |
| well would you? | |
|
| nope. I would not work in that city for all the money in the world. Nothing against New York or New Yorkers. To each their own. I value the piece and quiet that comes with living in a small town, especially now that I have two 20 month-old kids to raise.
If those towers were located in another town, and the same had happened, it would not bother me to go work there after they are rebuilt. It is just the city they happen to be located in that makes it a no no for me
| Mr. Linux Guy 2002-12-20, 9:19 am |
| Depends on the salary. I hate skyscrapers generally, and crowds even more, but you can't live your life being afraid of things all the time, so that wouldn't be a factor for me.
Finding a place to park, on the other hand . . .
|
| I love New York but I would not want to live and work there. I used to live an hour away and visited quite a bit. Now that I live in Florida, I would not leave. The weather is just to great here. As far as the Twin Towers, if they rebuilt them, I would go as a tourist to see them. | |

| NO, i agree with everyone on this so far, i have family in NY and it's nice to visit but it's too upbeat for me to deal with... i'm with freak on the smaller city thing.. | |
| Mr. Linux Guy 2002-12-20, 10:06 am |
| New York is upbeat??? | |
| chyna1057 2002-12-20, 10:09 am |
| I'm with the rest of you. Although I have nothing against New York or New Yorkers, I would not work in the TT for all the money in the world.
Here's a link to show you the different building proposals.
http://www.ny1.com/ny/Search/SubTop...tentintid=26607
My only comment on the way the buildings are built is they should not be built as tall as before. Even though security is bumped up to 200% there's a chance that something like this can happen again. It happended 2 x's already.
| bearing 2002-12-20, 10:59 am |
| I guess I would work in such a building if there was one in the UK, although I'd have to invest in learning how to Base Jump, for my own piece of mind.. | |
| Mr. Linux Guy 2002-12-20, 11:01 am |
| Would probably be a lot quicker than taking the elevator. If I was worried about an attack, I'd just bring along me parachute. | |
| ccieToBe 2002-12-20, 2:11 pm |
| I would. | |
| HOOLIGAN 2002-12-20, 2:25 pm |
| No my point being, not to live in New York City. But to work in them as an act of defiance to terrorism. | |

Yeah, I think our problems centre more on dislike of office buildings, traffic or noise. But no, I'd have no problems working in them. I certainly wouldn't let fear control my decisions of how I live my life. I can't give anyone that much power over me.
| Crutch 2002-12-20, 4:25 pm |
| Other than the fact that the building(s) would be located in the busiest city in N. America, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'd just invest in one of those smaller emergency chutes they're selling these days. | |
| MaulerJ 2002-12-20, 4:32 pm |
| nope, NY sucks... yes I have been there, up North, and south.... too cold, and too hot......... and tooooooooooo crowded | |
| jonhiker 2002-12-20, 4:53 pm |
| yes, but i wouldn't live in new york. give the pacific northwest any day, with the mountains, evergreen trees, hiking, skiing, etc....
but, the point is, yes, i would work in the new buildings to show the terrorists and the world that they can't make me run & hide.
|
| No problem working in the tower, the problem would be not working in Hawaii. Really, who would want to do that. | |
| Tennman 2002-12-20, 6:52 pm |
| No I would not work in a rebuilt TT no matter where it is built. My peace of mind is priceless. | |
| loopbacklady 2002-12-20, 7:08 pm |
| I would only work there if all the men in the building wore kilts with no breeches underneath, fuzzy nodules swingin',and no wedding rings, and no f#&$%^ing beepers!
yeah! | |
|
|
| loopbacklady 2002-12-20, 7:52 pm |

Is your WIFE aware of the sh!t you put out on this forum???? eh????

| chodan 2002-12-20, 10:15 pm |
| I have no particular desire to work in NYC.
It would be a cool job to help design the kind of infrastructure that would go into those buildings.
Talk about a challenge.
As for terrorists I'd as soon kill them as look at them much less do something as a statement against them.
| mindmesh 2002-12-20, 10:46 pm |
| I would in a Second. I'd love to have a Flat in Manhattan working in the WTC. But I do agree with Bearing. Base jumping lessons would be a must, just in case. Also, I'd like to see some SAM's on the roof. | |

Nice link. | |

| Compared to who I'm working for now, if the money was right I wouldn't give a rats arse where the building was located. | |
| enforcer 2002-12-21, 8:08 am |
| I think Base Jump lessons, with a mandatory Parachute under the chair are a must.
or maybe a portable hang glider.
| HOOLIGAN 2002-12-21, 8:21 am |
| Maybe all you who mentioned parachutes would rather have a pole to slide down instead? | |

Yeah Saturday noon's good for me, are you stopping overnight at a hotel? if so which one? we could all book rooms at the same place and meet up in the hotel bar.
Do you think thecomeons'd mind if we dragged him up a bit...I reckon he'd enjoy wearing fishnets and a miniskirt!!!
| HOOLIGAN 2002-12-21, 4:50 pm |
| I haven't got any fishnets, only a surf rod & reel with a 20 pound line.
Sounds like a plan, I will look into some hotels.
You want to do the guinness brewery or will that take up too much drinking time?

| I don't think Ando's picked up on this yet, and he is in Dublin | |
| ruscorp 2002-12-22, 12:48 pm |
| I'm a little late in this thread, however I would love to work in the new WTC. It's always been my dream to work there ever since I was small.
However, case and point. Let's move and the middle eastern embassies to the top floors just for safety.
| HOOLIGAN 2002-12-22, 2:10 pm |
| Im sure Ando is quite fed up of the multitude of Brits going to Dublin on Piss ups and painting the pavement with scotch broth. | |

I thought that this New Yorker poem personifies the anxiety a bit...

I work on the 6th floor of a NY skyscraper, where it takes almost 14 mins for full building evacuation--minus smoke and panic.
As long as im not up too high. ill work anywhere. Afterall, no one really get's out alive...
