depends on where you are and what the market is like in that area, your profile says you are in hong kong, the onmly people who might be able to help will also be from Hong Kong, don't know how many users we have from there at present, but i don't think there are many.

You shouldn't have much problem earning a decent living in new york once you find a job.
In Kentucky with those credentials you could range from 35'000 to 50'000 dollars a year with benefits.
In Louisville or lexington you could make up to 65'000 a year.
This is depending on the type of expierience you have and other variables.

Honky here is a derogatory term for a white person.

I'm talking about the exchange problems you are having with stanly,

stanly converted 32,000 us dollars into 250,000 hong kong dollars, you then converted 32,000 hong kong dollars into 4,000 us dollars ?????????

Let's ask Stanley, he is the expert on this.

Is a Network Engineer salary in HK about USD$32,000 or is it HK$32,000?

As for the word "Honky" -

I haven't heard that used in the US for a "Huero" (Mexican slang for more properly stated "Whitey") in quite a while. I used honkey in the context I learned in Singapore doing business with Singaporeans and Hong Kong'ers.

People from both cities commonly referred to Hong Kong residents as "Honkies".

Now they referred to me as Ang Mo in Singapore (roughly - Red topped devil- something to do with our nature, and that my skin is so reddish in the sun).

In Hong Kong I heard (very discretely) Gwuilo (ghost) and some northerners said something that sounded like Ma Lien (roughly - "horse face").

I hope that clears up any confusion about the use of the term. I meant no offense by using Honky to refer to some distinguished professional from Hong Kong.

Probably when dealing with any group of people (even if they appear to be all from the same culture) it is best to be careful of the slang you use and to assume they also do not mean any offense.

So when I caught the taxi driver at Changi Airport taking the long way around; I prefer to think the he meant that I have a gourmet palate when he said "Makan Babi Putra" (Bahasa for 'eater of pig').

At the time I was somewhat annoyed, but I did not say "Anjing Kuning" (yellow dog). Even though I really meant that he had an admirable dedication (as a dog might) to his job.

Have a good day,

You'll never know how much you're worth until you start looking for a new job and see what comes your way. The only value you have is the one they are willing to pay you.

Let me apologise again, Stanley already explained the discrepancy we all got caught up in!

Didn't Enforcer just say something about reading the thread?

I wonder how you say "boy, am I a horse's a$$" in Cantonese?
