| Hi there slinky how are you? i was wondering if i could have your assistance. I am having trouble impleneting subnetmask with class IP addresses. I understand what its used for but im finding difficulting determining what subnet to use.
I know that computers dont understand IP adresses which is why we use binary numbers (0-1). Network Id's are the first 3 octets and the last octet is the host ID.
Can you help me with this topic ive tried applying it and i dont seem to be understanding the concepts any help would be greatfully appreciated.

Where does this fit into the story?
you ought to change your moniker from 'four eyes' to 'Four eyes and still too pissed to see'

i thought we'd slipped into where-the-ozzies-come-from from the why-do-ozzies-call-the-limies-pommies angle?
speaking of ozzie. i remember this one gig we played in the neighbouring city. the other band wanted to play first coz the bass plaer was celebrating his birthday or something. they took all the audience with them, so we ended up playing to the guy behind the mixing desk and the crowd in the bar in the next room who only wanted to hear covers. we only had four covers in our set, and made sure we only played one. LOL. anyway, these birds walked through the bar as we were waiting to get our money. and we promply played our acappella version of warpigs by black sabbath.

were they ghosts?
Im so envious of your rock and roll lifestyle
| MistyRing 2002-11-28, 7:06 am |
| that was a bit of a non-story thecomeons. basically boils down to i once saw a bird when i was waiting in a queue. not very inspiring is it? | |
|
| Are you sure the audience all left when the 1st band went to a birthday party?
Perhaps they had heard you play before!

Before? is that a cover version, or one of your bands own compositions?
| thecomeons 2002-11-28, 7:27 am |
| i know it was a non-story. but i just remembered it when i referred to austrailians as ozzies. yes, "walking through the bar" does sound like the wrong phrase in retrospect, but they were walking from the lounge next door, through ours to the exit.
must write a song called "before". probably sound equally as crap as anything else i've done.

so you've heard this song called 'before' then? what's it like?

If you don't mind I will answer this one.
You seem to have a couple wrong assumptions about IP addresses.
which part of the address is network and which part is host is decided by the subnet mask.
that is anything on the mask and the ip address that ands out to 1 in binary is a network portion anything that ands out to 0 is a host portion
11111111 11111111 11111000 00000000 =snm
11010000 11101100 10111011 00001111 =IP
would be 108.236.187.15 255.255.248.0
or 108.236.187.15/21 in shorthand
meaning 21 bits are used for the network portion and 11 bits are used for the host.
I mentioned "anding" earlier.
"Anding" is a boolean phraze based on logic
It is when you compare your IP with your subnet mask
that is
1 and 1 will ligic to 1
1 and 0 will logic to 0
0 and 0 will logic to 0
I hope this helps a bit and I haven't confused the issue.

| Yeah, maybe I did relate 18 years ago, but
I bartended at a fashionable club while in college. Spent three years with wet feet. The money was good, but many years later and I don't find bars worth stopping in.
Guess I lead a pretty boring life...

As much as I love a good pint or 12, I dont think stopping at bars is an indication of an exiting life, if fact id say quite the opposite.
| drdirt 2002-11-28, 8:23 pm |
| You're too kind.
but I still enjoy pretty inane things after 3 or 4 pints, just like I did years ago.
Except somewhere before 12 pints nothing hold my attention anymore...

It's not willpower, it's physics.
Physics law states, no two objects can exist in the same place at the same time. ish

| six million really dates the show doesn't it.
I mean these days 6 nill is a drop in the bucket compared to many Goernment projects.
Today it would be "The Billion Dollar Person"
Person being the PC usage

| Either billion or 10 billion.
still would anyone really do a complete and candid accounting of the parts? would they dare expose any $640 toilet seats or maybe a $4,000 toe nail? |
