Hi,

Its been a while since I last posted, been busy with school and stuff

Anyways, I would like to know what is the best cert to take right now?

I know this a very vague question so I looked over the types of certs on this website and choose the following ones...

250-011: Symantec Product Specialist
Comptia - EKO-001: E-BIZ+
Comptia - PK0-001: IT Project+
Comptia - Security plus: Security+
Comptia - Server plus: Server+
Oracle - ?
Linux - RHCE

I already have these...

A+
N+
CCNA
MCP (Server 2000)

Any suggestions and comments would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks.

It depends on what you want to do/get into. What do you want to do?

IMHO, there really isn't a 'best cert' out there. The best cert is one in which you, as an individual, want to obtain or pursue because it specializes in a field or product you enjoy working on or in and you wish to become an expertise in that particular field or product.

I see you are a CCNA. You must know the CCIE is the networking industry's most respected and coveted certification. Yet not everyone can nor desire to become a CCIE. So the best cert is determined by what you want to do and not what everyone is gunning for.

Just my two cents worth...

That is one wide open question with lots of room for interpretation. But to be honest, the best cert will be the one(s) that improve your on the job performance and enhance your standing within your company as an employee. A lot of the certifications available work in tandem with each other and part of the process is determining what best fits your need.

One possibility if you are a website developer would be to look at E-biz+ (e-commerce), PMP/Project+ (project management skills), CIW Website Designer, MCP 70-215 (Server 2000 and IIS), Sair Linux (Apache) and skills dealing with graphics creation/photoediting, database programming,
and skills dealing with networks and security.

That is kind of future looking. I thought the best cert was the one that you just passed. That is until the glow of statisfaction passes by. Then the question becomes what is the next cert which is a personal decision based on requirement.

Thanks for the reply's.

Well, basically I'm just looking to get a cert in my spare time.

I was thinking of doing something more on the business side of things, I dont want to limit myself to only computer certs.

Thanks.

CCIE (if you consider the networks only)

do you know how many RHCE's there are in the world????
VERY LITTLE..
that is the cert that will get you the farthest
screw the comptia stuff, except maybe the security + may be worth something.

Best Cert I can recommend is Bill's Folly, running in the 4.30 at Chepstow tomorrow, 6-4 against.

Azam, if you want to stay on business side right now ... look at Project+ and Certified Project Manager from the Project Management Institute.

When you already have A+, N+ and MCP 70-215 you need just 2 more exams and you'll be an MCSA!

The list you have in there is quite eclectic to say the least. It is good to see you again, by the way

I have to agree with CoffeeFreak. The cert in there that is the the most guaranteed to bring in job opportunities and cool money is the RHCE. The comptia stuff you can forget about. It is never going to be a difference maker in your resume, because they are basically entry-level certs, and you are beyond that at this stage. I am not bad-mouthing those certs, I just don't think that they do much for you.

Oracle is also a nice cert to have if you are into DBs.

How about you finish your MCSE, or get an MCSA?

Thanks for the replys.

Hey Freak, long time no see

Which 2 other certs do I need to complete in order to become an MCSA?

I have been interested in linux for years now and have been thinking about getting certified for some time now, so I guess now is the time

Anyways, thank you all for your comments, appreciate it.

I just checked out some info on the MCSA exam from Microsoft's offical site...(http://www.microsoft.com/TrainCert/...equirements.asp)

If I understand it correctly, it says that I need 3 exams, which I already have one of...

70-215 - Windows 2000 Server

So, I need only two more which MUST be these two...

70-210 - Windows 2000 Pro
70-270 - Installing/Configuring Win2k/XP

Is that correct?

Thank you.

You need one client test (either 210 or 270), 1 server test (215) the 218 test, and 1 elective, for a total of 4 tests for the MCSE. You already have one, so that's three to go.

As for Linux, don't forget Linux+

Ok so for the MCSE, I need the following certs...

1) 210 OR 270
2) 218
3) Elective - Can I use my A+/N+ as one elective?

Thanks

methinks Freaks keyboard has developed irritable vowel syndrome, I'm sure he typed MCSA but his keyboard twisted the vowel and made it MCSE
