I got mine for free from my DSL provider.
Cable providers generally won't give you a static ip address because they don't want you running [ftp] servers and crap which sucks up all the bandwidth. (Cable is shared)

AT&T wants $149.00 for SDSL service with up to 29 static IP addresses. You get 192Kbps, which can be doubled for an additional $50.00.

That's about the going rate with our biz provider at the office, XO Commutations.

Bwaite: Not with cable.

Just put your website on some host provider for the short term, it is not expensive and as long you don't get into a contract, you can terminate any time...

You can host with a dynamic ip.
http://www.zoneedit.com/ offers free dynamic ip services. Haven't done it myself but know of some that have.

Good Luck

I have a dynamic IP, however, my Router re-news the IP before the lease is up.
I had the same IP for 2 1/2 Years, until the Service went down one Day.
It changed then, but i have the same IP ever since. ( 4 month).

Depending on what type of service is in place, anywhere from the price you got to free. A lot of providers of T1 or better circuits will give you a class C block or more for free. I'm paying $40/month for 32 IPs.

Btw, I use to have Road Runner and my IP leases would last for a few months each. Do you really need a static IP? Why not just use one of the dynamic DNS services?

My DSL people wanted something like 40 a month for a static, ( I believe you got 4) but these guys are right - for a temporary situation just stick with cable/dsl

Mine changes every 2 weeks at the very most and sometimes stays same for months.

Someone here has some other links to sites that will scan and update so you have a virtual static but I cant recall the names?

Those mentioned in here are probably good enough anyway.

For the cost of it all why not just get a year at www.phenominet.com ? 40 bucks and you get a domain name. for that price why host at home

here on mexico the internet dsl is very expensive. a 256 link cost about 50 usd monthly, 512 cost 90 usd and 2 mb cost 500 usd with one valid/public/static ip address.

with the 2mb link adsl and 1 ip address i map a http server, webcam server, ftp server, citrix server, vpn server, etc...... i use this ip for everything!!!!!!
