I'm not too surprised. This doesn't mean C/C++ is dying by any means, simply more people are responding to interviews by indicating they develop in Java then C/C++ (note that they're not mutually exclusive by any means). I fully expect this to fluctuate up and down for a while. While Java has found its way into several server-side uses (servlets, XML parsers, JSP), I hear people are passing on its UI and are no longer believing in the "write once run anywhere" hype. While C# may be similar, I think it'll have a more isolated market then Java. I think the following will hold true for a couple more years - If you are in good with Java, C++ and XML, you can definitely choose your own path.

Java has already taken the C/C++ along time ago it doesn't matter anyway if you know C/C++ you will definitely know Java they just differ in syntax but same in logic.

Lets get real here for a minute. Fist to start, I know Java, C and about 15 other programming languages. Java is good for some things but if you want to be a real programmer, you won't get there with Java.

C allows direct control over both the computer and memory that gives it its efficency over Java and other languages. With Java and its multi-platform support, you have to rely on the complex compiler and unseen libraries to do the simplest of functions.

Not don't get me wrong, if you want to make a web site, you would choose Java over C in that case. If you want to get real and make a complex real-time application on a computer that doesn't run windows where both execution time is measured in micro seconds, you will find out that you can only count on C.

By the way, how many OS's have been built with Java??

HMMMM
Now Ok...
Like some1 here pointed out ... JAVA done took over C/C++ .. where have you people been?

And to the comment of C dealing with straight hardware and memory , you are 100% right but does it offer OOP ? NOPE dont htink so! And besides the days of anti multi platform are over!!
C++ does not support portibility. Java is POWERFUL!!! I can list like 100 things wicked about it... but I my fingers are hurting..
Portability, Inheritance, OOP blablabla not to mention the multi threading ease now...

The only thing better or same is C#!!! and it is multi platfor also!

By the way I just finished programming a notepad which was mad easy now I am thinkin of making a Firewall in java ofcourse duhhhh

Hmmmmm I dont know if I can trust you ... you can sell it to Microsoft and then Microsoft would make tons of greens off it and Ill be left broke!!!

Nah just joking ... I'll send it to you but first tell me if you have jdk1.3 compiler I won't ask you if you know how to use it ...

By the way it's not notepad it's Ghostpad... and its a beta version too... Notepad doesnt deal with .doc files but I made mines to only deal with .doc , I only did it to get my motivation for the SCJP exam I am about to sit...

Thanks bro!

jdk1.4 eh ...... hmmmmmm

anyway here is the source code for the Ghostpad beta class str8 out of my harddisk without documentation... aint you luck...j/k

www.ditmas.net/jpros/Ghostpad.java

You'll need a test class with a main method , and just create an object of Ghostpad. Thats it ...
Lemme know if you have any problems with it ok.

Keep in mind it only deals with .doc extension...
