Weird Problem in Windows NT 4.0

| Hi everyone,
Today at work, I encountered a weird problem that I have never seen. The problem is when ever the user double-clicks on My Computer, Recycle Bin on desktop, or Fonts in Control Panel, the PC brings up a command prompt: C\WINNT\Profiles\Jhuynh\Deskto
p.(Jhuynh is the user's logon ID). This PC is running Windows NT workstation 4.0. I think there are some incorrect settings in the registry, but not sure where to find out. Have anyone had this problem before? What can I do to fix it? Reinstall NT is my last option. Thanks in advance for any input from you guys. | |

| What service pack is on the server?
Is it just that user, or every one that logs
on to that server? | |

| That PC is running Windows NT workstaion 4.0, Service Pack 6. The problem happens to every user who logs on to that system. Only default icons (My Computer, Recycle Bin,...) have problem. The other custom-made icons work fine. Is there anyway to modify those default icons' settings in the registry? | |

| Yes, I ran Norton AntiVirus on all the hard drives, but found no sign of any virus. | |

| Re-apply service Pack!
I dont like hitting the registry in NT.
Maybe you can ask M$ what to do.
Personally I havent seen this before, sounds like a virus, but Norton is pretty reliable.
Did you do a search on the C:\ for that folders name that comes up in the command prompt. It might be safer to rename anything associated with that name that doesnt sound to dangerous first. And then try editing the registry.
Whatever you do be careful! Sorry I am not much help, NT is so touchy when wierd things like that happens.
Good Hunting! |
