| To all you all Computer Techs...I am wanting to add a CD burner to my Compaq 7360 computer. I am running Win98. It has an AMD K-6 3D processor. When I popped the cover, which I had a time trying to do, the design got in the way,..I noticed the power supply is literally blocking any access to other components. To do any upgrading, it seems I will have to move the power supply. Is this a normal set-up that I can attempt or do I have to let the Compaq people perform this. I think I can handle it, it just that most computers that I have been into the power supply was at the top somewhere out of the way of everything else. This is a new setup design to me. Any help, suggestion, ideas, guidance will be appreciated. guidance | |

| I noticed a similar problem when I added a second hard drive to my Compaq Presario. This is the biggest reason I didn't buy another Compaq for home use. The business models (i.e., the EN or EP series) do not suffer from this problem. I had to duck-tape the drive to the side of the case - there was absolutely no other place to put it!! And since the old thing only came with a 4GB hard drive, I had to do something. Ultimately I will remove both hard drives and put one large one in and hand it off to a friend or family member.
Not sure how you can get around your problem, since this may be the one time duck-tape can't fix it Can you maybe move your floppy drive to another bay and use that bay for the CD? Otherwise, you may need to consider an external burner.

| Here ya go
http://www.compaq.com/athome/support/msgs/7300/
Just click on removal replacement procedure,
choose mass storage devices, then cdrom and it'll give you an illustration and procedure on how to do this. This is the best site for anyone working on compaq.

| If there's no room just remove the old cdrom and put the CDRW drive in it's place. Trust me you'll never miss the old one. | |

unless you like to make copies of cds without creating an image of the cd and then writing the cd image to the cd. takes a little longer, but yes, sometimes drastic times call for drastic measures.
but based on the images on that page, there appears to be a free 5.25" slot. so i guess you added the CDRW there?

| This is a problem that a lot of compacts have. Removing the CD ROM for a burner is a good suggustion, if a bit tedious. Just so you know, the newer Compacts may have a appealing price tag at the local retail chain store, but READ the reviews on the systems first! My friend has a compact that would allow anything but the smallest video cards, which really sucks with all the new cards out there. |
