I was over at a friend's house today, and while downloading files from I-Mesh (File sharing program), we accidentaly got the new version of the I love you virus.vbs(it has another name but I forgot it).
Unfortunately he didn't have an antivirus installed... I understood that the file was a vbs virus (from its extension) and downloaded MCafee and File Protector Pro, two antivirus programs. I tried to open them, but the virus must have had a feature to corrupt all of the antivirus programs.

I did a scan online from Mcafee's website, and found that the virus was spread on 30,000 files on the PC. WOW!!! That's huge!
I had to pay $30 to remove the files from the system so I didn't use their online virus removal system.

I also downloaded a remover but it didn't work... The virus corrupted it also. I thought of going to control pannel and disable VB scripting so the virus wouldn't have any effect on the computer, but unfortunately I couldn't open any of the applets in control panel. The virus had corrupted them all (saying that I didn't have the right to access that program)...

I thought of restarting the computer. After it was restarted the situation got even worse. I couldn't even go online. I couldn't open any programs at all except Windows Explorer. I went back home to get the Norton Antivirus 2001 CD, and after installing it, the antivirus files were already corrupted, so there was no way I could use an antivirus for this (Anti Virus Destroyer). I tried to remove some of the VBS files manualy, but it was no good since they kept adding and adding and adding...

You want to know my solution? I restored the system using the manufacturers CD to get it back to the state that it came from the factory. My friend lost all his programs, but at least he is now BUG FREE.

By the way, when I searched for this virus online, it said that this is an improved version of the Love Bug virus, but the name is different, I will post it as soon as I remember it.

I have never seen a virus like that in my life... My advice is to have an antivirus ON all the time. Our problem was that we let the virus spread out. Once it did, there was no way to stop it.

This was my story,
hope it doesn't happen to any of you.

Nowadays it's an absolute must to ALWAYS have an AV on your PC. The only way this will stop is if M$ builds in an antivirus program in windows that automatically updates itself weekly.

You'd trust M$ to write an antivirus program? LOL!

I can just see it now... "MS-AV Protection Disabled by Outlook Worm"

Well it's just a thought and it would be better than nothing. So many people still open attatchments and dont bother getting an AV.

I have had my Problems with that Virus as well.Found it in our Network on one of my Users Machines.Could not get rid of it!Found at www.download.com several Programs that claim to remove, but no such luck. The Virus will "hide" even in your Backupfiles if you have in Windows ME the "Restore" Feature enabled.Well,i formatted the Machine, installed Win 2000,a good Virus-Program,RESTRICTED THE USER with a neet little Program called "Tweak-i" (not to be confused with tweak-ui),and no more Problems!
Greetings to all!

Thanks, Deju-Vue. Just downloaded it. I think the problem was that I was typing in tweak-i, not tweaki.

I'll check it out...
