| can someone offer some knowledge please?
i had winME on my wkstation(i know)..I tried to install win2k adv srvr..afterwards i get a bsod that says IRQL not Equal to or Less.
So, I decide to just install good ole' Win98SE. I try to boot with the floppy..i first get Disk I/O Error....so I go inside and sure enough, my floppy cable wasn't properly attached. After I reseat the cable I try to boot to the floppy again...I get a message "Can't load DOS" I am thinking "Damn, what should I do?" I was thinking that it maybe an NTFS issue since I installed win2k and the disk is 2048 instead of 1024...So I installed Linux thinking that Disk Druid would wipe all partitions...It did but I still can't load DOS from the Win98 boot disk. I tried to boot the westerndigital diags to wipt them out that way but it still will not boot to floppy....What can i do to get this damn wkstation to boot to floppy....I can't boot to cd either now....
Oh yeah..after I reseated the floppy cable to the mobo, it says" booting from floppy" but then automatically goes into the LILO of linux. Any help is appreciated and welcomed.
Thanks

| Is this an OEM system or did you buy the components and build it yourself? If you bought the complete system you may have a system recovery disk that may help you with this problem. Not knowing more about the system you're having trouble with makes it hard to pinpoint WHY it won't boot with the floppy. | |

| yeah i guess that would help....i did build it...it has the following specs:
800 duron
810 chipset
128ram
20gb ata100
standard floppy...it used to boot fine
hope that helps

| Try booting the computer with DOS 6.0 and see. | |

| I don't understand why you are still trying to load a Win 98 boot disk if you have already wiped your partitions. Did you try booting up with the Win 98 CD in the drive (or the first Win 98 floppy in the floppy drive)?
You mentioned that you couldn't boot from the CD either, so you may have tried the Win98 CD already. Did you run the BIOS Setup Utility to make sure that it is looking to the CD as a boot drive?

| I had this happen too. The first part of the disk before the boot record is a peice of linux stuff. You need to get your floppy to read a boot disk 1st - Try BOIS settings. On the boot disk have norton Diskedit.exe or similar and use diskedit utility to load 0's into the first sector of the drive.
Fdisk doesn't touch it | |

| partition magic (or something similar). zero out the partition table with ptedit.
or, fdisk /mbr (nukes LILO et al.)
then fdisk and nuke all the partitions. can you see your CD in your BIOS? make sure it's connected properly also.
try again.
have a different HD lying around? try it?
