Need help on setting up my laptop to work from home

| Hey guys,
I need some help on setting up my connection to work from home. I recently purchased the Netgear RT314. I used to hook up the CAT5 directly from my cable modem to my laptop. This worked fine where once I clicked my Net Client icon to connect to work, it connected fine.. However, now that I connect my laptop into the Netgear router, then when I click the Net Client to connect to work.. I get an error message such as "No resonse from IPSEC terminator during authentication.."
My co-worker mentioned that I have to enable IP sec pass through on my router.. so in Netgear configuration, I added port 500 to my laptop ip address. But this still didn't fix the problem..
Now another friend mentioned that I need to modify the windows HOSTS file.. Can someone tell me if I have to do this? or if so, how should I update it?
I checked my userid profile for work .. and my profile is setup ok...
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

| Your co-worker's right, you need to enable IP-Sec passthrough. This isn't the same thing as port forwarding, and not all routers are capable of doing this. See if there's a setting for this, and if not, see if you can find anything on Netgear's website. |
