Does anyone know if there is a way to block users from changing their IE Security settings? We don't have a proxy server, and I don't want to attempt to create a whitelist via the Content Advisor. I just don't want the idiot installing every browser toolbar and news scroller he finds... they slide right under the NT user restrictions.

I believe you can tie the Internet security options down through the implemenation of a Group Policy. But I could be wrong.

Anyone else want to take a stab at this?

I don't think so; there are no IE specific settings, unless there's an IE plug-in for the Policy Editor?

Hi Nicole,

Is yours a corporate environment? Could you get hold of IEAK, I believe this has tools to customise the browser.

Alternatively, try replacing IE with...

I wouldn't call it a "corporate" environment. The axe has fallen so many times lately there's only 4 of us left plus 2 consultants

(So of course I have less time to snoop around their computers for verboten items. I have a job hunt to conduct here!)

I thought of IEAK as a last resort -- sort of like swatting the proverbial fly with the proverbial sledgehammer.

ROTFLMAO!

That would almost be as funny as his reaction when he finds out that I deleted all his silly internet toys.

Okay Nicole you got me...what's "ROTFLMAO!" mean?

I take it this chap is a pesky User who likes to fiddle with his desktop...have you considered a more direct approach, such as breaking his fingers? (Only joking )

Good luck - S.

I couldn't resist responding to this part of the post:

ROTFLMAO means Rolling On The Floor Laughing My A** Off!

Numerous times. I'm tempted to give him permission to open Word, Excel, Outlook and our Access database and leave it at that. Not even Solitaire! It would be a suitable payback for him asking me to address his mail the other day.

P.S. - Thanks for the link, Willemu.
