Well, wrote my CCSE this morning, passed with 88. There were 90 q's and you get 90 mins. Lots of SEP, MEP, SecuRemote, Policy Server. Know your encryption schemes, algorithms. Some load balancing, couple q's on syn defender and cpmad. If you have any questions let me know

Yeah, what Imran said. And I have nothing but questions! What is the CCSE? How hard, how much, and how worth it?

CCSE is Checkpoint Certified Security Engineer. It's hard because there is not much materials out there besides what Check Point offer. I've taken Checkpoint training courses and have work with them. It cost $150 USD for each exam, quite pricey. I think it's worth it cuz there are not many people in security and not many CCSE. Of course there is the PIX from Cisco but Checkpoint is renown for their firewall product. Set it up using appliances like a Nokia box and you are set. I like the security path as it is not saturated. Right now everyone is doing Cisco CCNP and me included. After CCNP I'll probably do certs on RSA, PKI, intrusion, etc. Of course there is CISSP which is considered the CCIE in security.

Congrat,

Must be very painful for the long period of studying. How hard is it?

Hey, I just passed my CCSA (74% - don't laugh, that was the oddest worded test I ever took). I will be taking the CCSE on Friday. I was sent to a week long training corse - VPN-1 Firewall-1 I and II - and found the classes to be really good.

While I think that people to take certifications really do work hard to get them, I did find that the class was of great help in making me much more assured in working with Checkpoint firewall-1 (the reason my employer sent me there).

For anyone who wants to take the CCSA, here are what they hit me with... (no brain dump, just study hints - there are over 300 questions in Checkpoint's database)

Know the Log Viewer
Know Authentication inside and out.
Know the GUI interface
Know your options in the Firewall Properties
Know what order you put rules in.
Know that you aren't going to answer every question correctly - they have questions that are so ambiguous that they can't possibly be answered unless you guess.

I don't think that can be considered a brain dump as anyone who took this test knows.

That test was 90 questions in 90 minutes also.

I did get a question that was so odd - it was almost existential. I was laughing so much at it that the proctor came to see what I was laughing about. She read it aloud (it was just us in the room) and started to laugh also. Be prepared for that sort of thing. I am sure that the CCSE will have them also.

Good luck to all. I am going to study now.

Hmm... didn't see any weird q's on ccse when I wrote it.

Congrats anyways.
