Career question...serious...need your input

| Ok... I am a student in Information Systems and I'm graduating in 6 months. Right now I am trying to find a job and it's so tough to find one in networking or programming because with my IS major I could go into these two areas, but my choice is probably networking.
I have the brain and the willing to go in this field but right now I am just confused about someting. I grew up as a science and mathematics guy and I am really goood at it, know what I mean? You might ask then why did I choose IT?
Well, I was playing for awhile and came back to school and most of what I have done so far will apply to the IS degree, so I did. Well, recently, getting a job was so tough, as the economy is pretty slow and the effects it has on layoffs.
Then lately I also found another degree program that is in Engineering and I am so interested in it and I really want to spend another two year or 2 1/2 to get it. The reason is that it has to do with math and science because it's engineering.
One other factor that is steering me away is somehow I begin to think how IT is constantly changing. I mean you can spend the rest of your life on a PC trying to do something or keeping up with the new technology. For instance, getting certified takes a while, but the certifications could be outdated in a couple of years. All these discourage me and really steer me toward engineering as a true skill. I mean anyone can stay at home, use the Net, build a PC, build a network, get a job. Plus the nature of the IT profession is competition... too much.
I see myself spending too much time catching up, reading stuff, learning stuff, practicing stuff, just to keep up with exam expiration and stuff. I mean there's more to life than that. Well, I don't mean to offend anyone but that's how I see it so far. I don't know if all these confusion has to do with the fact that I haven't found a job, but I tried to see it from IT people as examples and most of them are really just kinda odd and have no life at all.
I mean Engineers pay their due too, but you only go there for 8 hours and go home and that's it. It's a true skill that don't change much. Also, I am 25 and at this point, I don't know if I should change my career or not. Please let me know what you guys think of this analysis and let me know your opinions about my question.
I got my A+, N+ and starting on the CCNA, but all the things I said above really put me at a halt right now and I still thinking about what I really want as a career. | |

| If you are good at Math and Physics, go for engineering. Assuming that you have the money to pay for school. A degree in Electrical Engineering (or any other Engineering), is a very valuable asset.
Based on current economic conditions, I think you will have a difficult time finding a job without a degree.
