I have a ques. concerning my DVD Player by WinDVD 2.1 @ this point I am unable to view any DvD's on my player. I Keep getting the msg. {Create Overlay has failed need to adjust/lower screen resolution or srceen depth. I have tried to do this w/o much success, I am using display adapter Rage IIc AGP(English). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the WinDVD player and drivers even went to upgrade to new drivers but keep getting the same msg. concerning Create Overlay has failed. All the software shows up on display screen power is getting there the eject button works except the DVD player itself upon loading DVD's.I can only think its the graphics display adapter ,just purchased this Systemax with Win98se last year with AMD Atholon 700Mhz. If any of you can help with this it would be much appreciated.

Right now resolution is set to true color(32bit)720x480.I have already tried to change it to different settings (256) 800x600
and all other settings within display settings, and keep getting the create overlay error msg. I have contacted Tech Support@ Systemax they said that they have had this problem before 6mos. ago and no longer support WINDVD and they were going to send me another DVD software application known as PowerDVD; I don't know if it will fix the problem but the tech assured me that that works fine if not he stated they will send me another DVD player. But if you can help please send me an email thanks a bunch.

To play DVD, with out the decoder card.
(it mean software decode)
U need to redure the resolution to 800x600 for the application to initial the video.

I hope this help, because it how I used DVD on my PC

I don't think that you will be able to play a dvd with 256 colors on 800x600

you at least need 16 bit colors.

You dont have to wait for the full version of power DVD to arrive, you can try to use the eval version and see if that solves the problem.

Do you have direct X drivers installed?
Do you have DMA mode enabled for your DVD drive? How much RAM do you have?

Thanks for responding, to answer your question I have Direct X 7.0 drivers and DMA is enabled w/ 256Mb Ram. The tech stated that it's probably a software problem than a hardware problem. I had no idea that DVD would be so complicated.

Did u try the PowerDVD! It is very good DVD program..

If u reduce the resolution and the used the new DVD program, it shall work. If not, then check with your DVD manual and to see what kind of specific video card that required.

Good luck

After doing a little bit research, I found out that "NetMeeting" cannot be running in the background while you are trying to play a DVD, so in other words, Disable it and it should work then. I can certainly bet you that it is not the dvd software that is causing the problem eventhough trying another software might solve the problem.
