Okay, I'm going for my MCSE 2000 right now, but thought about getting the MCDBA after that since I would be so close. Here's what I want to know. If I get my MCSE, and take the SQL Server 2000 test as one of my electives, exactly how close am I to MCDBA?

Once you've completed your core MCSE exams, you're two SQL exams away from becoming an MCDBA. If you wanted to, you could even have these be your two MCSE electives. Take a look at M$'s website for more info.

MCDBA is four exams.

1 -- Server
2 -- SQL Design
3 -- SQL Admin
4 -- Elective: If you are going for your MCSE you can use 216 as your elective. Others include C++, Data Warehousing, FoxPro and VB...

So let me get this straight, if I get my MCSE, and take SQL Server 2000 implementation as an elective, then I only need to take the SQL Server 2000 admin to get my MCDBA. Is this correct?

That's correct.

That is the sweet part about knowing the requirements! Add two more exams and you know how I ended up with all the premier certs. Now, if you don't like database logic than it doesn't make sense but it is easy to specialize!!!

First things first though -- take the MCSE!!!

Good Luck!

I enjoy working with databases. I'm just getting my MCSE for my job, and wanted to make getting my MCDBA as easy as possible.

That is why I got the MCSE -- for the job. Never planned on it and was disgusted to find out that I was really good at networking and troubleshooting

Good Luck!
