| WIN98 doesn't have any security policies unless you implement "Policy Editor". Even then, security is still weak. There is no local security at all on WIN98. You can implement a policy for a user on the network, but not on the local 98 machine. As far as logins go, you can make the desktop appear differently for different users, but that's about it. If you want security, start thinking WIN2K, NT, or XP. | |

| i'm using the computer as a stand alone and can manage to get the desktop that i need its just the pressing cancel and the esc key thats worring me. i thought the default user should be implemented in this case but it doesn't appear to be the case. | |

I haven't much experiance with win98 policies, but if I was you, i would consider upgrading to NT4 workstation or win2k professional, especially if you are worried about security !

| win98 has no security policy stopping anyone from logging unto your system. Pressing ESC or clicking CANCEL boycotts the password and takes you into the desktop.
If you want security, go for winNT of win2000.

| How do you implement security policy on Win98?
Unless you put additional program to protest the data.
Other way I know is networking your Win98..
|
| I suppose if you were really intent on using win98, you could edit BIOS to ask for a password for the local computer when booting up, but thats about it in terms of security for win95/98 !!!! |
