| Hello everybody.
I will have an interview for a Management Information System post and I heard someone said that the interviewer asked him a very difficult question. Can anyone give me some ideas to prepare it?
The question is:
"Based on the intensity of competitors, barriers to entry to the IT market, buyers' bargaining power, suppliers' bargaining power and threat of substitutes, do you think that the IT industry is really profitable?"
Thx : )

| Wel, that's not a very hard question to answer, but they'll expect detail. Research the industry, it's trends and companies' performances and the answer will be clear. CHECK OUT ZDnet and techTV on cable to get info. | |

| Just a lot of business lingo , basically I think what they are asking is , more along the lines of Considering the intensity of competitors (Microsoft vs Novell or Cisco ) etc barriers to entry to the IT market (Linux ?)buyers bargaining power (whether to buy a Mac or not ) and the threat of substitutes ( linux or just getting a palm pilot , or wireless ).
Do you think the IT industry is profitable ?
Given the spectrum of IT I think there can be no one right answer , I think the question is trying to gauge your knowledge of products and consumers , business and what they need , like faster internet access , better security systems (verisign)
better datastream , reliable hardware (cables , routers , fibre optics) companies who did not fare so well like the many dot.coms that died , most in part because of financial problems , and not paying enough attention of the consumer .
Do yourself a favour and read some industry magazines , and business magazines , and you will be better prepared for the interview.
so sure its profitable , as long as you can clue into the consumer and what they want ,

| I think the "barriers to entry" is large.
Did Linux easily enter the market?
I don't think so. | |
