Do you have questions, comments, suggestions about the new site?

Post it here. I'll try to answer all your questions.

Basically everything in the forum remains the same and all buttons are at the same locations as before.

Registration is now easier than before, but this only affects the new members.

Current members should click "Profile" link and add a couple more fields to their profile. These fields are: First name, Last name, and number of news you want to see on home page.

All there fields are optional and your name will never be visible to others, this is only for our records and it will be used when we email site updates to you in order for our emails to look more personal.

Currently the registration and editing profile does not work well with Netscape, so please use IE 5 of above. I have finally decided not to ban Netscape after all, and will fix the Registration for Netscape later.

Enjoy

Looks nice Webmaster. That's good news about Netscape. I use to be into web design myself, so I know what you mean about Netscape compatibility being a pain when you get into anything advanced.

I have one suggestion:

With the new setup, whenever I right click on a link my browser follows it as if I left clicked it. I'm not sure how common this is, but I typically leave the main forums page open, and go into the individual forums by opening them in new windows. It would be great if I could do this without having the current window follow the link as well.

Other then that the new setup's great.

Hey, how come when I right-click on a thread, it opens. It seriously interferes with my way of doing things. (Right-click|open in new window) I don't like having to use the shift key.

Is it a bug or by design?

using:
Win ME(bah!)
IE 5.50.4134.0100

[Oh, I now see ccieToBe made a smilar post]

Hmm... Actually, using the shift key doesn't solve the problem. It opens the new link in new window, but the original window also follows the same link

Anyway, just so you don't get me wrong Webmaster, I really like the new design! Keep up the good work!

I notice this as well, although it doesn't bother me. The new cover page loos great, much more attractive and 'business-like' if you will. Now let me test it out in Netscrap and see what happens.

I haven't encountered any rt.click problems. Rt.Click | Open in New Window. What kind of browsers are you guys using? I am using IE5.5
Casey

2001-05-13, 11:58 pm

To me, this right click thing only happens when you are using www.examnotes.com

if you go to www.cert21.com and click on the forums and then use that site, everything will be fine. So I guess you guys can do that until the problem is fixed.

BTW: Cert21.com has the same forums as examnotes.com, they just "look" different.

actually, if you do that, you might have some trouble going back to the new examnotes style.. eRRR

I am not sure whether I am the only person having this problem, but I have had to log in some 17 times this morning. I have tried everything from restarting the browser, emptying the cache and changing from use cookies to sending through the links to no avail.

I am lost without the forums....anyone else?

tired of logging in,

cboyles, I've had this problem in IE 5.5. Not sure why you're not having it.

dentonb2000, I've noticed that when the temporary Internet files are erased I have to log in again. Check your browser settings to make sure that the temporary files aren't erased every time you close your browser.

I have to say, I really appreciate the effort it took to redesign the site. I know how much time and effort it took to re-design The Cisco Lounge, and that site is about a tenth the size of this one.
Unfortunately, I think the new design is a little more sterile than the first. It doesn't really fit with "ExamNotes". The old design had that notebook kinda feel to it, with the different shades of yellow and all. This one has more of a notepad(.exe) feel to it. I'm sure in time, this one will begin to feel more "right", but for right now, I miss the old design, well color scheme anyway.
I do appreciate the effort to keep it fresh though.

I agree with BlueBaron. I think the new look is more sterile and it's really hard for me to read the red lettering on the black background in certain areas. I know your intentions were good, but different isn't always better. Just my 2 cents worth...

When you say red lettering on black background, do you mean links when you place mouse over them?

This can be changed by editing the style file. I will try to change it to white on black as been suggested by someone.
Cathy V

2001-05-14, 11:44 am

I was referring to the "forum jump" and "rate the thread" sections of the page that are black background with red lettering. Is it like that for everybody or am I the only one seeing it???

Also, there aren't any arrows for "previous post" or "next post." I have been using my browser's back arrow to get back to the list so I could pick the next thread. Is that weird or what? I could have sworn I USED TO have back and forth arrows for the posts!
Webmaster

2001-05-14, 12:33 pm

I will try to find what happend to next, previous arrows.

As far as red colors for drop-down menus, I like it the way it is now, but I'll experiment with other colors in the near future.

I am sure we'll all get used to the new site design pretty soon.

I was really getting tired of the old site look. I think every site should change the look once a year. I've seen many really big sites change their look, and sometimes it results in confusion. At least I kept the navigational links at the same spots.

2001-05-14, 5:13 pm

I have had serious problems trying to login the last two days using netscape, ie 5.5, and opera. Of course, I have not been able to sit down for an extended period of time to figure out how to operate in this new environment. I just wanted to logon for 5 to 10 minutes, catchup on what was going on, respond to a couple of questions, and logout.

In opera, my main browser, my textboxes alternate between dark blue and light blue backgrounds with black text using the document cascading style sheets (css). Is this the norm? This css puts a strain on my eyes, so in order to use examnotes comfortably, I will have to create my css examnotes.

This has been frustrating. It is going to takes me some time to get use to.

layout -- getting used to, but like.
discussion/thread table -- make wider plz.

overall, MUCHO de LIKEY (er, whutevah).

certify

2001-05-16, 4:28 am

I agree. The discussion board will look better if the width are set to 100%. It very compact now don't you think?

One suggestion is to open an entire new windows for the discussion forum and use a subdomain like forum.examnotes.net just like most of the hardware tech sites do.

To WebMaster:

I apologize if this is a duplicate.

The i-NET+ study guide (IKO-001) was accidently placed in the CIW category (testid) and not the CompTia. There is no link in CompTia to the i-NET+ material located at: http://www.examnotes.net/?action=te...01&work=details

There is already a post to correct location in the i-NET+ forum...

Yeah great, I read this thread before you made the change, but dumb ole me was still caught out when it actually happened.

Everything needs change now and again, for my two cents...I think it works fine. I certainly appreciated the links remaining in the same place, it helped me find the forum. I suppose one of these days I might actually read everything on a web page.

Keep smiling webmaster, your hard work was worth it.

Site looks and feels great with one exception: When I point to a forum topic, the background doesn't bode well with the color of the text, and I lose what I'm looking at. Just a minor thing, but there's so much grey anyway, I think it would be better just to back highlight similar to when you point to the author of the thread. Problem is I'm mostly color blind. I can adapt, but I thought I would mention it...since you did ask.
Thanks so much for the great content, friendly participants, and all around cool "stuff"!!!
