| Start from the ground up. Is the PC a member of the domain? Is the network adapter enabled and configured correctly? Are the WINS, DNS and DHCP settings configured correctly? Check all physical connections to the network. Do you get a reply when you ping the localhost? We use a bunch of 300PLs where I work and they are not the most trustworthy machines IMHO. Good luck and I hope this helps. | |

| Since you only mention netbeui, I'll guess that there is no domain involved and also that you are not using tcp/ip which rules out dhcp and dns. If he can connect to the other machines, then the computer is up on the network.
In order to share any files, you have to enable file and print sharing. Right click on network neighborhood, select properties and you shoud see that button towards the bottom of the window.

It sure does sound like it, I wish I knew more about NT so I could help you out. I looked all over the M$ site for File and print sharing in win NT and didn't find anything worthwhile. | |

| Check that the server service is running. If it is running, try restarting it.
Also check the settings for the server service on the problem box and compare them to the settings on other properly working NTWS boxes.
Check in Event Viewer for errors and post them here.

Creamy ... I did that and you hit the spot...

I tried to start the server service ..
but I get a different error....
"could not start the server service ..
Not enough server storage is available to process this command. "
there are two drives .. here are the details
c drive --> used space 2.25 GB Free space 1.65 GB total 3.90 GB
D drive --> used space 200 MB free space 5.31 GB total 5.50 GB
the paging file size was 150 ....
maximum size was 189
on instructions frm one of my colleagues I made the following changes
Initial size 240 MB
maximum size 240 MB...
is this detail good enough ?
what is the usual rule of setting thr paging file size ??

| Probably the browser service depends on the Server service, so concentrate on the SS.
This might be what you're looking for: link to an interesting technet article
(Reader's Digest version of the Technet article is: Reapply your servicepack)

| No way!
You just made my day!
Amazing what a paper MCSE such as myself can accomplish with a little help from technet!
I guess Technet really is useful sometimes
