I would like to hear opinions from hiring managers on schools. The only community college in my area is a dump in more ways than just appearance. I would like to know if ITT tech is a good school or just another Joke. I want to get an A.A.S in Network technology.

If HCC can't fix you up, try UofH extensions. There are quite a few alternatives to ITT. You're in HOUSTON, fer christ's sake.

U of H isn't really an option. I'm not looking for a 4 year degree. I don't see to many good schools in my area. Houston might be big but it does suck in the education deptartment. HCC central shouldn't even be allowed to call itself a college. I am considering San Jac even though they are 20 miles away.

ITT is a good school, I have had good luck hiring their graduates. The only drawback is the cost. If you can find a decent state college you would come out ahead money wise.

Thanks Freddy. I am thinking of just driving the 30 minutes out of my way to attend a decent school which looks like it will be San Jac.

My experience with ITT is that it depends entirely on the individual campus. I believe that there are three in the Houston area, and they may very well be very different.

It is a little known fact in the education circuit that ITT could very well be in danger of losing their Federal Student Loan Program. If this were to happen, no funding means no students - no students means no school - no school means you're stuck with 3, 6, 9 months of education from a facility that is not regionally accredited. If this were to happen, these credits probably would not be transferrable. You would be back at square one with little to show for your time. Just something to think about.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

If u have a PC at home(High speed connection), why not try the distance learning. DL is getting very common and many great college offer it program online. I know that Penn state, Maryland U, John Hopkin, even some states U at CA, AZ, TX, NY, too.

A great school, a great professor will get down to you on the phone, or the net to help...

Texas State Technical college has an AAS in Computer Networking Technology(CNT). I am on the Industry Advisory Committee. The also offer a degree in Network Electronics Technology(NET). They are a registered Cisco Academy.
I'm a grad.
State tuition is reasonable.

Thanks for the information. Because of that I have decided to stick with the community colleges. I will probably go to San Jacinto next semester. They seem to be well rounded on the network degree. Its got a couple of programming classes(I dig that stuff) and the rest is network and OS stuff. I really like they only make you take a minimum of the academic classes. HCC is ridicules on the amount of academics they give you. There isn't enough network classes in the degree either. Its nothing but WIN2K. I don't see how someone would learn enough about networks that way. They don't even go into hardware. San Jac and ITT both make you learn hardware.

Thanks for the suggestion but I live in Houston. TX State would be a really long drive. That's the reason I choose HCC, they are only a 10 minute drive away from my crib. I'm really thinking about doing the 30 minute drive to San Jac to get a good education.

I checked out ITT and their FSL. They said they have no problems, funding is great and are backed by state and private associations. They did say that the little certification training schools where in mortal danger sense they are non-accredited. I know of one in the area that got shut down for unethical activity.

Anyway, I am still considering ITT sense, once again, my only college option is Houston Community college which seems to get worse by the moment.
