| I’m looking for a site that has some t-shooting tips for dialup or modems issues. I have a user that’s attempting to dialup and gets the error message; modem in use by another modem or program. No other programs are running, Yes, he rebooted and popped the battery out for 1min. After rebooting I had him hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to see if rnaapp was running-it was not. He has an internal modem and a modem card. I had him switch between the two, rebooted and try again. Same message, the system is running Win95 and he successfully dialed up last night so I’m not sure what the problem could be. Can anybody help? | |

| I used to have this problem when I dialed up to an ISP this way:
I'd double-click IE, the browser and my dial-up manager would appear. I'd hit dial and then my modem would start dialing. Then if I closed the browser, the browser would disapear as well as the Dial-up manager, but the modem would keep dialing even though the computer thinks the modem has stoped working !!
Then, if I tryed to use the modem for anything, I'd get the error your getting. Only solution I could find was the normal solution for everything, restart
Maybe he is shutting the browser down before the dial-up manager has finished connecting to an isp ?
Hope this helps, althogh it probably won't !!

| This error can appear if you are using program like WinFax or other similar program for messaging/fax
The program need to take control of your modem because it constantly waiting for the call.
Often these types of programs start automatically when you start Windows, so you may not even know that they are running.
If that's the case, just closing the WinFax application solves the problem.

| I had a similar problem before, but i don't have any communication program running and will not get dial up access to the Netzero!
I think it might be the auto configure error on detecting the port. The solution might be on the MS support. Nothing is perfect! MS rock! |
