So what's the deal with Lanop anyway? I remember hearing there were some problems with it, but does anybody know what the problems were?

They got all tied up in litigation with the state, charges were laid, etc.

I was contacted approximately 8 months ago by some former Lanop students to cover their story after the court cases.

At the time I made a few phone calls to make sure what they were telling me was legitimate.

What happened is that Lanop was operating as a training center in New York State without a license to do so - which New York State is very strict about. Criminal charges have been laid and a court date is pending.

John Goodfriend the President of Lanop made a whole slew of comments to the press about how he was above he law, which didn't help his case.

The former Lanop students are now unable in some cases to find work because of the Lanop name, and those students have started a Civil suit against Lanop and John Goodfriend.

It is believed that Lanop knew this situation was going to occur, because at one point you may remember they were planning to break the Lanop division off from the NT-CIP division. It now appears that they had planned to do that in a last ditch effort to save the integrity of the NT-CIP certification. However, they did not do it in time, the integrity of the NT-CIP was lost forever, the charges were laid, court procedings were started, and they never got a chance to separate the two divisions.

John Goodfriend and Lanop apparently also lied when they said the NT-CIP examinations could be taken at VUE and Prometric testing centers, because both deny communications with Lanop - and have stated that given the current state of Lanop and the NT-CIP, they wouldn't offer the examinations.

I personally believe VUE and Prometric because Microsoft is one of their biggest backers, and to offer the NT-CIP examinations would have been a conflict of interest.

What a bummer for the students who were involved with that outfit.
Hope things work out for them and they all succeed in their careers.
